His father, Jim, played football at Penn State, his grandfather, Walter, played on Penn State's basketball team and his older brother, Josh played lacrosse at Ohio State. Josh also competed for the Minnesota Swarm professionally.
His grandmother, Jean, was one of the first female athletes at Penn State and competed for the men's rifle team.
