The Indianapolis Colts select Kansas State Wildcats cornerback Julius Brents in Round 2 of the 2023 NFL Draft with the No. 44 overall pick (via a trade with the Atlanta Falcons).

The Colts made the roster move on Tuesday.

The Colts beat the Arizona Cardinals, 21-13, on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium. While the majority of the team's starters didn't play, there was still plenty to take away from the Colts' second preseason game of 2024. 

The cornerback was sidelined with injuries for much of his rookie season and is determined to keep that from happening again.

Expected a heated competition during training camp as the Colts figure out who will start at outside corner in 2024. 

Brents appeared in nine games as a rookie with one interception, five pass break-ups and one forced fumble.

The Colts didn't select a cornerback until the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and didn't add anyone to that group in free agency. 

Brents flashed plenty of upside in 2023, but fought through injuries throughout the season that limited him to nine games. 

Of the Colts' 11 draft picks between rounds 2-7, five of them started at least two games this season.

Brents was born and raised in Indianapolis. He attended Warren Central High School, where he played defensive back for the Warriors.

Brents sustained a quad injury in Week 7, while Ogletree sustained a foot injury last week against the Carolina Panthers. 

Downs snagged his first career touchdown, and a few plays later, Brents recorded his first career interception in the Colts' 37-20 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday at EverBank Stadium. 

Brents made his NFL regular season debut in Week 3 and had a game-shifting forced fumble in the Colts' 22-19 overtime win over the Baltimore Ravens. 

In Brents' NFL debut he had four tackles, a pass breakup, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

The Colts downgraded running back Zack Moss to doubtful on Saturday.

In Ballard's press conference on Wednesday evening, he made a point to spotlight the Colts' cornerbacks and their 'really good upside'.

After growing up a Colts fan, Brents got to realize his childhood dream as he suited up for the team against the Chicago Bears on Saturday.
