The Colts on Saturday placed cornerback Charvarius Ward Sr. on injured reserve, meaning he will miss at least the next four games.
Ward sustained a concussion during pregame warmups prior to the Colts' Week 6 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Ward will miss games against the Los Angeles Chargers (Week 7), Tennessee Titans (Week 8), Pittsburgh Steelers (Week 9) and Atlanta Falcons (Week 10).
The Colts have a bye in Week 11; the earliest Ward could return is the Colts' Week 12 road game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Ward previously missed the Colts' Week 2 win over the Denver Broncos with a concussion sustained in Week 1.
In a corresponding roster move, running back Ameer Abdullah on Saturday was signed to the Colts' 53-man roster from the practice squad. Abdullah, a 10-year veteran, appeared in two games since joining the Colts' practice squad in September, carrying three times for 13 yards with a touchdown and a nine-yard reception. The 32-year-old Abdullah has also spent time with the Detroit Lions (2015-2018), Minnesota Vikings (2018-2021), Carolina Panthers (2021) and Las Vegas Raiders (2022-2024).
Abdullah in his career has 2,007 yards on 497 carries with 20 total touchdowns.
The Colts on Saturday also elevated cornerback Cameron Mitchell and wide receiver Laquon Treadwell to their Week 7 active roster from the practice squad. On Friday, the Colts ruled out wide receivers Josh Downs (concussion) and Ashton Dulin (chest); on Saturday, running back Tyler Goodson was downgraded from questionable to out.
Mitchell, a 2023 fifth-round pick of the Cleveland Browns, was active for the Colts' Week 6 win over the Cardinals, while Treadwell appeared in two games for the Colts in 2024.
