A Categorical Look at the Day in Colts Camp
EYE ON CAMP

The Colts' longest practice week of 2008 Training Camp is over, having ended last week with a loss in the preseason opener against the Washington Redskins.

Things are more condensed now, with the team returning for a light practice Tuesday and scheduled to leave for the second preseason game on Friday.

Thus, there's a two-fold challenge this week, Colts Head Coach Tony Dungy said:

1) Continue to work on fundamentals.

2) Prepare for the Carolina Panthers on a very short week.

"That's the thing we're going to miss this week – a little bit of our fundamental work," Dungy said Tuesday between a pair of short 2008 Training Camp practices at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

"We'll actually have the practices tomorrow (Wednesday) to do that, but starting on Thursday, we'll tailor it a little to get ready for the game. It's a short week. Recovery time is imant and we'll try to install and build a little bit today and tomorrow and then try to get ready for the game."

The Colts will play the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte, N.C., at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

"It (the preseason opener) went good. It went smooth. When I was in there, I thought we did well. I think it was efficient and smooth and the way I wanted it to go. We would have liked to have scored a touchdown, but we put points on the board. I just hoped we can continue to do what we did Sunday night."

--- Colts Quarterback Jim Sorgi

TRIVIA QUIZ

Reserve Jim Sorgi started at quarterback in the Colts' preseason opener Sunday night, but never has started a regular-season game. Who was the last quarterback other than Peyton Manning to start a regular season game for the Colts?

DUNGY SAYS

"(Rookie running back) Mike (Hart) ran and did everything in the (preseason opener) just about as he's done in practice (rushing for times for 53 yards and catching three passes for 28 yards). It really wasn't surprising. When you watch him practice and watch him work, we felt like he'd have a good game. He did everything he was called on to do. He had two pass-protection pickups. He handled those well. He caught the ball out of the backfield and ran and made people miss. It's probably what he has been doing for eight or nine years."
