FALCONS WR RODDY WHITE, GIANTS DE OSI UMENYIORA & LIONS KR-PR-ST STEFAN LOGAN NAMED NFC PLAYERS OF MONTH FOR OCTOBER

Wide receiver RODDY WHITE of the Atlanta Falcons, defensive end OSI UMENYIORA of the New York Giants and kick returner-punt returner-special teamer STEFAN LOGAN of the Detroit Lions are the NFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Month for October, the NFL announced today.

OFFENSE: WR RODDY WHITE, ATLANTA FALCONS

White had 29 receptions for an NFC-best 489 yards and three touchdowns in October as the Falcons went 3-1.

He averaged 122.3 receiving yards per game, the best mark in the NFL.

Despite playing only four games in the month because of a bye, White still led the NFC with 489 receiving yards and tied for third in the conference with 29 catches.

Among players with at least 20 receptions in the month, White's 16.9 yards per catch average led the NFC.

He had three 100-yard games during October and was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week after recording 11 catches for 201 yards and two touchdowns against Cincinnati in Week 7.

White leads the NFL with 54 receptions and tops the NFC with 747 yards. The Falcons are tied for the best record in the conference at 5-2.

In his sixth season from Alabama-Birmingham, this is White's first career Player of the Month Award.

He joins ANDRE RISON (October 1990) as the only wide receivers in franchise history to be honored.

DEFENSE: DE OSI UMENYIORA, NEW YORK GIANTS

Umenyiora led the NFL with seven sacks and six forced fumbles as the Giants posted a 4-0 record in October.

During the month, he had three consecutive games with multiple sacks and also forced two fumbles in all three of those contests.

In Week 4 against Chicago, he had three sacks and two forced fumbles. The following week at Houston, he recorded two sacks, two forced fumbles and a pass defensed. And in Week 6 versus Detroit, Umenyiora had two sacks and forced two fumbles.

On the season, Umenyiora leads the league with seven forced fumbles and ties for second with eight sacks. The Giants are tied for the best record in the NFC at 5-2.

In his eighth year from Troy, this is Umenyiora's first career Player of the Month Award.

He is the first Giant to be named Defensive Player of the Month since MICHAEL STRAHAN (October 2001).

SPECIAL TEAMS: KR-PR-ST STEFAN LOGAN, DETROIT LIONS

In October, Logan led the NFL with a 35.9-yard kick-return average and ranked third averaging 18.4 yards per punt return.

In Week 5 against St. Louis, Logan was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after returning a kickoff 105 yards for a touchdown, tied for the longest kick return in team history.

In Week 8 against Washington, Logan returned a punt 71 yards to set up a TD. He is the only player in the NFL this year with a 100 yard KR and a 70 yard PR and the first Lion to accomplish the feat in a season.

Additionally, Logan was a factor on the team's cover units as he recovered two fumbles in Week 4.

In his second season from South Dakota, this is Logan's first career Player of the Month Award.

He is the first Lion to be honored since EDDIE DRUMMOND (Special Teams, November 2004).
