*JACKSONVILLEJAGUARS VS. INDIANAPOLIS COLTS POST-GAME QUOTES 9/21/08 *
HEAD COACH JACK DEL RIO (opening comments) Jaguars vs. Colts Post-Game Quotes 9/21/08
"It was a tremendous AFC South battle. Obviously we knew it was going to be a heck of a game. I thought the guys came in prepared to give a fight, work hard, and we were able to get some things going, run the ball, pass the ball, convert some third downs, get our backs some touches. Everybody did a great job. They came in there and responded the way they have so many times, looking to steal a game late like they did last week with Minnesota. Fortunately, we were able to get the ball with a little bit of time to go and we were able to come up with a performance. (QB) David (Garrard) made some good throws and enabled us to get a kick up, and the thing was just drilled. He drilled it. It would have been good from 65 (yards) by the way it looked. There was never a doubt. So, I'm really, really proud of the guys. Real physical, determined effort, showed a lot of resolve and a lot of grit."
HEAD COACH JACK DEL RIO (on the Peyton Manning pass to Marvin Harrison on 4th down at the end of the game) Jaguars vs. Colts Post-Game Quotes 9/21/08
"Well, (CB-Scott) Starks would have been that guy, or Rashean Mathis would have been that guy, but boom, boom, we've got two injuries there but Will (James) can play and Harrison ran a timely route and they hooked up and made a nice little play. So, 4th and 2 we are going to be aggressive there and try to make a stop, but they made a play. They made a nice play there, that's Peyton to Harrison and, you know, how many times have we seen that over the last 10 years?"
HEAD COACH JACK DEL RIO (on the game being a must win) Jaguars vs. Colts Post-Game Quotes 9/21/08
"They are all must wins. Of course, nobody likes to lose. Winning is great and losing is not very good. You put so much energy and effort, and so much time into these ball games and gearing up for the season and to drop the first one in the division is tough because they are all must wins. Now we've got ourselves to 1-1 within the division. We've got four more games there. There's a lot of football left. There's a lot of football left regardless of how this game finished."
HEAD COACH JACK DEL RIO (on the noise level in Lucas Oil Stadium compared to the RCA Dome) Jaguars vs. Colts Post-Game Quotes 9/21/08
"Nothing easy about what just transpired. I think you are talking about a good football team, loud environment, very difficult circumstances. I didn't really, to be honest with you, notice a big difference. It is loud. I think it's very similar."
QB-DAVID GARRARD (on the final kick) Jaguars vs. Colts Post-Game Quotes 9/14/08
"Man, I was doing a lot of praying. It felt like we won the Super Bowl. I ran out on the field and the coaches were yelling to get back on the sideline. It was a lot of stress released off of our bodies."
QB-DAVID GARRARD (on the last-drive penalty called on the Colts) Jaguars vs. Colts Post-Game Quotes 9/14/08
"I was not surprised. It needed to be called. It was a slant route and the linebacker knocked the receiver off."
QB-DAVID GARRARD (on QB-Peyton Manning possibly being frustrated while Jacksonville drove down the field) Jaguars vs. Colts Post-Game Quotes 9/14/08
"I am sure he was. But I am sure he was happy after he took his team down the field. I knew he was feeling good after that. But he knew there was too much time on the clock."
RB-FRED TAYLOR (on why running the ball was successful) Jaguars vs. Colts Post-Game Quotes 9/21/08
"We said that we were going to come in and run the ball. The O-line wasn't going to be denied. Myself and (RB) Maurice (Jones-Drew), we set out to put everything on our back. The defense played outstanding. They didn't let them get too far ahead, so we were able to sustain some drives, and we were able to be patient. Things worked out like we wanted them to."
RB-FRED TAYLOR (on what K-Josh Scobee's field goal means) Jaguars vs. Colts Post-Game Quotes 9/21/08
"I told him that we flopped a royal flush. I think it would have been good from 60 (yards). I was on the bench tending to my headache and I looked up and it was right down the middle, high and right down the middle."
RB-FRED TAYLOR (on what almost finishing the Colts off twice and then finally finishing them off with K-Josh Scobee's 51-yard field goal means to the Jaguars) Jaguars vs. Colts Post-Game Quotes 9/21/08
"Very resilient. The past two weeks we had our shots to close some teams out, it didn't happen and we ended up losing. Today, for a split second, it looked like we were going to do the same thing but no one quit. The effort has been there, the fight has been there and the finish is definitely there. So, hats off to all of my teammates, they held strong and they finished today."
RB-FRED TAYLOR (on whether this game was a matter of will) Jaguars vs. Colts Post-Game Quotes 9/21/08
"I spoke to the guys on Saturday and told them that this is definitely an attitude game. They got to bring emotion, they got to bring attitude. It's about you versus that guy across from you. The guys listened to the message. Today was a boulder in our way and you can't walk around it, can't run from it, you got to go through it and move it out of the way, and we did that today. My teammates accepted the challenge and played well."
DB-RASHEAN MATHIS (on the physical play between Jacksonville corners and Colts receivers) Jaguars vs. Colts Post-Game Quotes 9/21/08
"That's what kind of game we wanted it to be. We wanted it to be physical. They are a finesse team and we wanted to get our hands on them as much as possible today."
DB-RASHEAN MATHIS (on contact with Marvin Harrison on his interception) Jaguars vs. Colts Post-Game Quotes 9/21/08
"There's physical contact on about every play if you're pressed up. I was pressed up all day on about everybody I played."
DB-RASHEAN MATHIS (on the overall defensive play of Jacksonville) Jaguars vs. Colts Post-Game Quotes 9/21/08
"I have to take time out and acknowledge how many minutes the offense ran off the clock. We were able to steal two possessions and help our offense. That's what we need to do."
K-JOSH SCOBEE (on where on the field he felt comfortable that he was going to make the final field goal) Jaguars vs. Colts Post-Game Quotes 9/21/08
"Once we got passed the 50 I said just get five more yards and I will feel comfortable with that. To be honest with you, 63 yards is a long kick, but I'm just glad we got down there to make it a 51 yarder."
K-JOSH SCOBEE (on how much they love you when you make a game-winning kick) Jaguars vs. Colts Post-Game Quotes 9/21/08
"It's kind of funny in the contrast between weeks, and if you have a bad game people can look at you like you aren't part of the team but when you have a game like this where it comes down to the kicking team, it feels a whole lot better."
