Hammond Bishop Noll legend Gerald “Jerry” Vlasic passed away on October 25 in his sleep at the age of 81 years old. He was the longest-serving (26 seasons) and winningest coach (162 victories) in program history. He retired after the 1996 season and led the Warriors (13-1) to the 1989 Class 3A championship, defeating Indianapolis Roncalli, 20-14, at the Hoosier Dome.

There will be a new champion in Class 6A after Warren Central eliminated defending champ Indianapolis Ben Davis, 49-28.

Michigan City established a new mark for points scored in a contest in its 72-19 triumph over Munster. The Wolves’ previous high was 63 (63-0) against Gary Roosevelt in 2009.

Chris Harness surpassed Sam Schrader (3,842 yards) as Mishawaka’s all-time leading rusher with his 35 carries for 276 yards and two scores in a 35-28 win over South Bend Riley. Harness also became the Cavemen’s single-season leading rusher with more than 2,200 yards for the season.

Caden Browndyke’s 32-yard field goal with 6.6 seconds left lifted defending Class 4A state champion East Central to a 9-7 victory over South Dearborn.

Lafayette Jeff quarterback Maximus Grimes set a new single-season mark for touchdown passes with four scoring strikes in a 35-24 win over Noblesville. The sophomore now has 46 touchdowns, surpassing Mike Vlahogeorge’s previous record of 44 scores set in 2003.
