Indianapolis – JaMesha Harris of Hammond Morton High School has been named the Colts Flag Football Coach of the Week, the Indianapolis Colts announced today. Harris earned this recognition after being nominated by her fellow coaches and athletic directors from the Indiana High School Girls Flag Football League.
Harris' Governors improved to 6-0 on the season with wins over Michigan City (13-12), Hammond Central (28-6) and Gary Lighthouse (12-6). Morton remains the only team without a loss in Region 1.
The following coaches also were recognized as honorable mentions for Week 6:
Region 2: Jerimiah Maggart – Penn
Region 3: Reggie Tharp – Fort Wayne Snider
Region 4: Jeremy Risen – Silver Creek
Region 5: Jes Wright – Shortridge
Region 6: Jeff Richardson – Roncalli
This season marks the second year the Colts are recognizing outstanding high school girls flag football coaches throughout Indiana. Each week, following a slate of girls flag football games, one coach will be announced as the honoree.
All head coaches within the Colts league are eligible regardless of their school size or region. Coaches are evaluated on various factors including the coach's impact on the team, school and community, as well as the team's performance. The honorees are nominated by their fellow league mates, consisting of coaches and athletic directors.
At the conclusion of the high school girls flag season, each winning coach will receive a $1,000 donation from the NFL Foundation, as well as a commemorative plaque.
