The Colts on Monday placed quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. on injured reserve and claimed safety Reuben Lowery off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens.
Richardson sustained a fractured orbital bone during pregame band work prior to the Colts' Week 6 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Head coach Shane Steichen said Monday Richardson will "miss some time" but didn't have a definitive timetable on when the Colts' backup quarterback could return. Richardson will be required to miss a minimum of four games while on injured reserve.
The Colts currently have two quarterbacks on their 53-man roster: Daniel Jones and 2025 sixth-round pick Riley Leonard. Steichen said general manager Chris Ballard and the Colts' football operations staff are "working through some things" with seeking a third quarterback, and the team will "work through it here in the next 24 hours," Steichen added.
Richardson this season appeared late into the Colts' Week 3 and Week 5 wins over the Tennessee Titans and Las Vegas Raiders, respectively. The 23-year-old had been Jones' backup for the first five games of the season.
Lowery, a 5-foot-9, 204 pound safety, appeared in three games (one start) for the Ravens in 2025, totaling five tackles. He joined the Ravens as an undrafted free agent this spring and played his college ball at Chattanooga.
