NFL Owners Award 2012 Super Bowl to Indianapolis

ATLANTA, Ga. - This time, there were only smiles.

Because on Tuesday afternoon, the NFL owners made a decision for which the city of Indianapolis has waited for a year - actually, more than that.

The announcement:

Indianapolis is hosting the 2012 Super Bowl.

Indianapolis, which last May narrowly lost a bid to host the 2011 Super Bowl, on Tuesday was awarded the Super Bowl that will be played in February of 2012. The members of the city's Super Bowl committee submitted the city's bid shortly after 1 p.m. at the Spring 2008 NFL Owners Meeting at the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead in Atlanta.

Representatives from Houston and Phoenix submitted bids for those cities immediately after Indianapolis' bid.

The league's owners voted to award the game to Indianapolis shortly thereafter.
