Indianapolis – Shauna Tewell of New Prairie High School has been named the Colts Flag Football Coach of the Week, the Indianapolis Colts announced today.
Tewell earned this recognition after being nominated by her fellow coaches and athletic directors from the Indiana High School Girls Flag Football League. Her 4-0 Cougars, fresh off a shutout win over LaPorte, are averaging 37 points a game, while giving up only five points a game. They also have two shutouts wins.
The following coaches also were recognized as honorable mentions for Week 4:
Region 1: Heidi Teach – Illiana Christian
Region 3: Chris Lahr – Fort Wayne South Side
Region 4: Tara Schnur – Evansville Mater Dei
Region 5: Greg Person – Ben Davis
Region 6: Ryan Williams – Beech Grove
This season marks the second year the Colts are recognizing outstanding high school girls flag football coaches throughout Indiana. Each week, following a slate of girls flag football games, one coach will be announced as the honoree.
All head coaches within the Colts league are eligible regardless of their school size or region. Coaches are evaluated on various factors including the coach's impact on the team, school and community, as well as the team's performance. The honorees are nominated by their fellow league mates, consisting of coaches and athletic directors.
At the conclusion of the high school girls flag season, each winning coach will receive a $1,000 donation from the NFL Foundation, as well as a commemorative plaque.
