INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Colts' talented rookie class just keeps on rolling.

The National Football League announced today that guard Quenton Nelson is the league's Offensive Rookie of the Month for October, giving the Colts NFL Rookies of the Month in consecutive months to start the 2018 season.

Nelson is also the first guard in NFL history to earn league Offensive Rookie of the Month accolades.

Nelson joins linebacker Darius Leonard, who was the league's Defensive Rookie of the Month for September. Nelson's the first Colts player to earn NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month honors since running back Joseph Addai back in November 2006.

Nelson, the Colts' first-round (No. 6-overall) pick in this year's NFL Draft out of Notre Dame, has been a huge piece to the team's surge on offense in recent weeks.

In the passing game, quarterback Andrew Luck has thrived with what has amounted to the best protection in the entire league, as he has not been sacked one time in the last three games, and just once in the last four games. Nelson has been a huge part of that protection, as he allowed zero sacks and just one hit on the quarterback during the Colts' four October games, according to Pro Football Focus.

Nelson's dominance in the run game has been even better, however. With the Colts utilizing his strength as a puller often, Indy would rush for more than 200 yards in two straight games for the first time in the same season since 1985. The last time the Colts rushed for 200 yards or more in two straight games was over a two season span from 2003-04.

Nelson helped pave the way for running back Marlon Mack to register the first two 100-yard rushing games of his career in Weeks 7 and 8. Over the last two weeks, Mack leads or is tied for the league lead in rushing yards (258, first), rushing touchdowns (three, tied-first), scrimmage yards (308, first) and scrimmage touchdowns (four, tied-first).

Nelson is the sixth Colts player to earn NFL Rookie of the Month honors, and the team now has now had two different players win that award in the same season for the first time in franchise history.

Colts NFL Rookie of the Month Winners

Quenton Nelson on Thursday became just the sixth Colts player to earn NFL Rookie of the Month honors:

» 2002: Dwight Freeney, DE (November, December)

» 2006: Joseph Addai, RB (November)

» 2018: Darius Leonard, LB (September)

» 2018: Quenton Nelson, G (October)
