WESTFIELD, Ind. – The Indianapolis Colts today signed free agent cornerbacks Tre Herndon and Duke Shelley. The team also placed cornerback David Long Jr. on the Injured Reserve list and released tight end Albert Okwuegbunam Jr.
Herndon, 5-11, 185 pounds, has played in 84 career games (34 starts) in his time with the New Orleans Saints (2024), New York Giants (2024) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2018-23). He has recorded 233 tackles (180 solo), 9.0 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, 32 passes defensed, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and 10 special teams stops. Herndon has appeared in two postseason contests and has tallied five solo tackles. He was originally signed by the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent on April 30, 2018, out of Vanderbilt. In 2024, Herndon spent time on the Saints' active roster and practice squad. He saw action in one game. His first name is pronounced Tray.
Shelley, 5-9, 176 pounds, has played in 53 career games (11 starts) in his time with the Giants (2024), Los Angeles Rams (2023), Las Vegas Raiders (2023), Minnesota Vikings (2022) and Chicago Bears (2019-22). He has compiled 87 tackles (64 solo), 14 passes defensed, one interception, one fumble recovery and six special teams stops. Shelley has also appeared in three postseason contests (one start) and has registered seven tackles (five solo), two passes defensed and one special teams stop. He was originally selected by the Bears in the sixth round (205th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Kansas State. In 2024, Shelley spent time on the Giants' active roster and practice squad. He played in one game and tallied one solo tackle.
Long Jr., 5-11, 196 pounds, was originally signed to the Indianapolis practice squad on September 2, 2024. He has played in 79 career games (12 starts) in his time with the Colts (2024), Giants (2024), Green Bay Packers (2023), Carolina Panthers (2023), Raiders (2023) and Rams (2019-22). Long Jr. has compiled 94 tackles (81 solo), eight passes defensed, one interception and two special teams stops. He has appeared in six postseason contests (one start) and has totaled 12 tackles (11 solo), 1.0 tackle for loss, one pass defensed and one interception returned for a touchdown. In 2024, Long Jr. saw action in 13 games with Indianapolis.
Okwuegbunam Jr., 6-5, 258 pounds, was originally signed to the Indianapolis practice squad on December 17, 2024. He has played in 30 career games (seven starts) in his time with the Colts (2024), Philadelphia Eagles (2023-24) and Denver Broncos (2020-23) and has compiled 54 receptions for 546 yards (10.1 avg.) and four touchdowns.
