INDIANAPOLIS – Jim Caldwell is going to feel back at home this August.
On Thursday, Aug. 10 and Friday, Aug. 11, Caldwell's Lions and the Colts will take part in joint Training Camp practices at the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center.
These practices will be closed to the public. The two teams will kick off the preseason on Sunday, Aug. 13 in a 1:30 p.m. contest at Lucas Oil Stadium.
"It's a great way to create competition," new GM Chris Ballard says of the practices with the Lions.
"Camp gets hard and it can start to get a little old, practicing against each other. I think it's a great opportunity to get with another team, create competition."
This will be the fifth time the Colts have taken part in joint practices with another team.
Under Chuck Pagano, the Colts and Bears held joint practices back in 2015, leading into a preseason home game at Lucas Oil.
Detroit and Indianapolis will start the 2017 preseason against each other, one year after they opened up the 2016 regular season on opposing sidelines, also in the Circle City.
