The debut episode of "The Jack Doyle Podcast," a new Indianapolis Colts Podcast, of course touched on the two-time Pro Bowl tight end's thoughts on Tyler Warren.
Voice of the Colts Matt Taylor, who co-hosts the podcast with Doyle, asked the former Colts tight end what his advice would be to Warren, the 2025 first-round pick who will make his NFL regular season debut on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins at Lucas Oil Stadium.
"One play at a time," Doyle said. "It sounds cliche and simple and coach-talk, or whatever you want to call it, but I truly played my best ball – because you can get swirling in your head as a young player and thinking too much about different stuff. He's probably got a lot on his plate for a rookie, and the way they can move him around, I'm sure Shane's got tons of plans fro how they can put him in different spots.
"But just play one play at a time. Football lis simple. Simplify all the stuff that's being put on you and play one play at a time."
Keeping that narrow focus can sometimes be difficult for a rookie, especially one as versatile as Warren – and Doyle expects Steichen to use the Penn State product in several different ways starting in Week 1.
Also on the first episode of "The Jack Doyle Podcast," Taylor and Doyle caught up about what he's doing in retirement – Doyle, an Indianapolis native, hung up his pads after the 2021 season – and what the challenges are of going from being a player to an ex-player.
One of the things Doyle mentioned along the way was part of the genesis for this new podcast, which will go alongside Indianapolis Colts Podcasts such as "Instant Reaction" (after every game), "Inside Football With Rick Venturi" (every Wednesday afternoon) and "The Colts Show" (every Thursday) to provide Colts fans with even more perspectives on their team.
"I always joke with people that I feel like I got a PhD in football by playing this long, and especially a PhD in playing tight end," Doyle said. "I know the position, obviously, from doing it for so long. So then it's like, it's weird when you stop because you don't use it anymore. It's trying to find ways to use it, to find the outlet. That's why I'm excited to do the show. It'll be fun to talk some football and share my thoughts on the Colts."
