The Colts on Wednesday opened the 21-day practice window for quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. and safety Daniel Scott. Both players can now be activated from injured reserve at any point over the next three weeks.

Richardson was placed on injured reserve in Week 7 after sustaining a fractured orbital bone in a freak accident during pregame warmups in Week 6. Head coach Shane Steichen said on Monday that Richardson had been cleared "from an eye standpoint" and was able to resume physical activity.

Richardson will not be available for Monday's game against the San Francisco 49ers, Steichen said.

"He still has some vision limitations in his eye so we're going to get him back on the practice field, get him throwing some scout team," Steichen said Wednesday. "It's good to get him back out there. That'll be great."

Steichen said the orbital bone was healed, allowing Richardson to be cleared to return to practice. Now, the team will continue to have conversations with Richardson about how he's feeling and how he manages his vision as he returns to practice and continues to progress. As for the vision limitations, Steichen said it will be something Richardson has to manage going forward as he continues to heal.

The Colts currently have three active quarterbacks on their roster in Philip Rivers, Riley Leonard and Brett Rypien; the Colts signed Rivers after Daniel Jones was placed on injured reserve with a season-ending torn Achilles last week. Steichen on Monday said Rivers would continue as team's starting quarterback, and confirmed that on Wednesday.

This season, Richardson appeared in the final minutes of the Colts' Week 3 and Week 5 wins over the Tennessee Titans and Las Vegas Raiders, respectively. He was Jones' backup for the first five games of the season.

Scott was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury in Week 5. He played the first four games of this season, recording one solo tackle and one special teams stop. He spent the entire 2023 and 2024 seasons on injured reserve.
