The Colts on Thursday signed quarterback Daniel Jones to a contract extension.
Jones excelled after signing with the Colts as a free agent in March of 2025. Over 13 starts, the 28-year-old Jones completed 261 of 384 passes (68 percent) for 3,101 yards (8.1 yards/attempt) with 19 touchdowns, eight interceptions and a passer rating of 100.2. Jones, who spent the first six seasons of his career with the New York Giants, set new career highs in completion percentage, yards per attempt, passer rating, yards per game (238.5), QBR (63.0) and sack rate (5.3 percent).
Jones' completion percentage of 68 percent is the second-highest in a single season in Colts history, behind only Peyton Manning's 68.8 percent mark in 2009.
Among qualified quarterbacks, Jones in 2025 finished third in yards per attempt, fourth in completion percentage, sixth in passer rating, seventh in QBR and seventh in passing yards per game. He added five rushing touchdowns as well.
Over the first 10 games of the 2025 season, Jones helped push the Colts to an 8-2 record, commanding an offense that scored on a remarkable 57.6 percent of its possessions, which was by far the highest rate in the league. However, Jones dealt with a fracture in his left leg after the Colts' Week 11 bye, which limited his mobility in losses to the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans. He started to move better in Week 14 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but cruelly he sustained a season-ending torn Achilles in the first quarter of that game at EverBank Stadium.
Jones, in Janaury, said he expects to be cleared by the start of training camp in July. Both general manager Chris Ballard and head coach Shane Steichen said last month at the NFL Combine that Jones' recovery is on track.
Colts Owner and CEO Carlie Irsay-Gordon said in January her expectation for 2026 is that the Colts could re-capture their early-season success; what Jones brought on and off the field was a significant driver of that 8-2 record to begin last year.
