Anthony Richardson 'day to day' after dislocating pinkie; Shane Steichen to evaluate plan for Daniel Jones in Colts' second preseason game

Richardson only played seven snaps on Thursday before a blindside hit on a sack led to him dislocating his pinkie and exiting the game. Daniel Jones, who was scheduled to tag in for Richardson midway through the second quarter, wound up playing 31 snaps.

Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson sustained a dislocated pinkie on his throwing hand during Thursday night's preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens, head coach Shane Steichen said.

Richardson, who started the game and was scheduled to play about a quarter and a half, did not return after being hit on a sack by Ravens outside linebacker David Ojabo. Steichen said Richardson is considered day to day.

"He's doing all right," Steichen said. "It's a dislocation. They popped it back in. Let's see how it goes."

Richardson after the game said his pinkie is "a little swollen" and "just tender." He expects to be sore in the morning but added: "I'm good."

"It was weird," Richardson said. "He hit me, then I was trying to make sure I had the ball, and I just looked down, I see my finger in a different direction. I'm like, maybe I'm tripping. I looked at it again, and it was definitely like that. So I'm like, I need to get this thing popped back in place and I'm good."

Daniel Jones, who the Colts planned to play about half of the second quarter, wound up taking 31 snaps on Thursday night. Richardson's injury came on his seventh snap of the game.

The Colts' larger plan was to have Jones and Richardson flip playing time from the first preseason game to the second preseason game, which kicks off at 1 p.m. on Aug. 16 at Lucas Oil Stadium against the Green Bay Packers. Steichen said Thursday night he'll evaluate how to proceed with that game against the Packers given the initial plan called for Richardson to have fewer reps than Jones in it.

"Absolutely, that's definitely a thing I'll look into because obviously Daniel got the bulk of the reps today," Steichen said. "I'll look into that."

Richardson completed two of three passes for 21 yards before exiting the game. Jones went 10 of 21 for 144 yards.

The Colts will return to Grand Park for training camp practices on Saturday, Sunday and Monday next week before closing out training camp with a joint practice with the Packers on Thursday.

"Everything happens for a reason," Richardson said. "I felt like I was going decent out there besides that one play right there. But everything happens for a reason. We still got the next game. I'm not really worried about it."
