Riley Leonard has knee injury, Colts hopeful QB can play vs. Seahawks; Anthony Richardson Sr. will not be activated from injured reserve for Week 15

Head coach Shane Steichen said the Colts could also make an additional roster move at quarterback this week with Daniel Jones sustaining a season-ending Achilles' injury against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Colts quarterback Riley Leonard, who entered Sunday's Week 14 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars after Daniel Jones sustained a season-ending torn Achilles', is dealing with a right knee injury, head coach Shane Steichen said Monday.

Leonard and the Colts are "working through" the injury, Steichen said. When Steichen was asked if Leonard could play this weekend, he said: "Hopefully. That's the hope. We'll see how it goes."

Leonard quarterbacked the final three quarters of the Colts' 36-19 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday at EverBank Stadium, completing 18 of 29 passes for 145 yards with an interception and a rushing touchdown.

With Jones out for the season, the Colts have Leonard on their 53-man roster and Brett Rypien on their practice squad (tight end Tyler Warren is the Colts' emergency quarterback). The 29-year-old Rypien was signed to the Colts' practice squad in October after quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. was placed on injured reserve following a freak accident during pregame warmups prior to Week 6.

Steichen said Monday Richardson will not be activated from injured reserve this week.

"He's still working through it," Steichen said. "Obviously it's an eye, it's very delicate. So he's just resting it, and then once the doctors and trainers clear him to be activated – that's where it's at right now. Still just healing up."

Rypien has appeared in 11 games (four starts) in his career with the Denver Broncos (2020-2022), Los Angeles Rams (2023) and Cincinnati Bengals (2025), completing 98 of 168 passes (58.3 percent) for 950 yards with four touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Steichen also said the Colts are evaluating the potential for a roster move at quarterback this week.

"Chris (Ballard) and his staff are working through that right now," Steichen said.

The Colts still have to formally place Jones on injured reserve to open a spot on the 53-man roster.
