ANDERSON – We have reached the halfway point of the Colts 2015 Training Camp in Anderson.

Saturday brought another day of full pads for the Colts, with the physicality taking center stage in the afternoon.

What were the takeaways from the Colts sixth day on the practice field in Anderson?

PRACTICE TAKEAWAYS

  1. Saturday marked the second time in Anderson the Colts put on the full pads. The chippiness was evident on Saturday. An Oklahoma drill was the highlight, with Chuck Pagano ushering the offense and defense to midfield for a spirited session during the middle of the practice.

A brief scuffle between Arthur Jones and Lance Louis came following a one-on-one blocking drill between the two veterans. This is where the grind of camp begins to come. Full pads are now being worn more frequently and it's clear guys are tried of hitting each other day-in-and-day-out.

  1. From a "highlight" standpoint, Saturday's practice was a bit quiet in the playmaking department. That changed in the final few stages of practice.

Andrew Luck dropped a beautiful 60-yard toss into blanket coverage against rookie Phillip Dorsett. The Colts first-round pick hauled in the over the shoulder catch and continued his strong camp. Dorsett is being lined up all over the Colts offense and is starting to receive more and more first-team reps, tossing in some chunk plays to spark the unit.

  1. If you had to pick a "camp sleeper" through a week in Anderson, cornerback Jalil Brown would warrant some serious consideration. Brown had two interceptions on Saturday, building off a pick he had during Wednesday's night practice.

Brown has spent some time with the Colts the last two seasons (10 combined games). He is definitely making his presence felt for a likely fifth cornerback spot.

OTHER PRACTICE MUSINGS

  • With Vontae Davis and Darius Butler missing some time on Saturday, the cornerback depth for the Colts was tested. Brown of course made the most of his reps. Rookie D'Joun Smith saw the starting reps, opposite Greg Toler in the base set.
  • Tight end Sean McGrath is going to be someone to watch in the second week of camp. McGrath received some first-team run on Saturday. McGrath, a former undrafted free agent in 2012, has 26 career receptions (he has tremendous hands) and could definitely find his name on the Colts final roster. Without a true fullback on this year's roster, the Colts could keep four tight ends in 2015.
  • We saw the same starting offensive line for a sixth straight day: LT-Anthony Castonzo, LG-Lance Louis, C-Khaled Holmes, RG-Todd Herremans and RT-Jack Mewhort. We continue to see plenty of rotation though in the lines with Andrew Luck and Matt Hasselbeck working with different combinations.
  • Frank Gore broke a couple of solid runs on Saturday, but his day wasn't all grand. A Josh Chapman tackle of Gore sent the 10-year veteran to the turf. Gore popped up and let Chapman know what he thought about the hit, forming quite the scene of the gargantuan nose tackle looking down at the 5-9-Gore.
  • Pat McAfee once again took to field goal duties on Saturday and was quite reliable in splitting the uprights. McAfee was also practicing some onside kicks during Saturday's practice, a clear weapon we saw in three successful attempts last year.

INJURY REPORT/ROSTER MOVES

The following players did not participate in Saturday's practice: Robert Mathis (Achilles) and Donald Thomas (quad). Both players are on the PUP list (can be removed from that list at anytime). Inside linebacker Nate Irving (knee) continues to sit out as he recovers from a 2014 ACL surgery. Running back Vick Ballard (hamstring) sat out Friday's practice and remains day-to-day. Fellow Running back Josh Robinson (soreness) sat out on Saturday and is also day-to-day. Rookie offensive tackle Denzelle Good did not practice with an undisclosed injury.

The following players either missed Saturday's practice or left early: wide receiver Duron Carter (groin), cornerback Darius Butler (groin), Vontae Davis (rest), defensive end Kendall Langford (soreness), Adam Vinatieri (personal reasons) and Erik Walden (rest).

PAGANO QUOTEWORTHY

Chuck Pagano on the rookie defensive linemen from Stanford, Henry Anderson and David Parry:

"They're both good. Doing a good job picking things up. We're throwing a lot at them, so the mental part of it isn't hamstringing them and slowing them down. Good football players, tough guys, smart guys, they're going to be factors. They're pushing everybody, you know, there's good competition there right now."

PLAYER QUOTE OF THE DAY

Dwayne Allen on the 13 pounds of weight he has lost in the offseason:

"I'm glad everyone is noticing my physique because I've worked hard on this body. From last year to this year, I've lost just over 13 pounds just to get at a very comfortable playing weight where I can still handle the inline blocking stuff but also can get down and stretch the field a bit more."
