INDIANAPOLIS —T-minus 28 days.
The Indianapolis Colts today officially announced the dates for their offseason workout program, voluntary and mandatory veteran minicamps and OTAs, which all kicks off Monday, April 9 at the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center.
The Colts will be getting a little bit of a head start on most of the league by virtue of having a new head coach, Frank Reich, in place. Teams with returning head coaches can start their offseason workout programs no sooner than April 16.
In a bit of relevant news, Reich told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine that he expects Andrew Luck to be back with the team at the start of its offseason program. Luck, who underwent surgery on his throwing shoulder in January 2017, missed the entire 2017 season, but has been working and rehabbing his way back since officially being placed on Injured Reserve in early-November.
Luck has been primarily working in California since the end of the 2017 regular season, and while Reich said he's yet to start throwing a football as part of his rehab work, but "he's continuing to make the progress that was expected with the weighted balls and working on the motion and everything is going according to plan."
Colts general manager Chris Ballard said simply having Luck back in the building will be a boost for everyone in the organization.
"I think we need to see Andrew just get back into football and being with his teammates again. I think Andrew is going to tell you the same thing. I think that's important," Ballard said. "Every step that he's taking right now has a purpose behind it, and we feel good about where he's at right now. Even though he hasn't picked up a football right now, he's doing some things that's showing us that he is where he is and he's going in the right direction."
