After signing contract extension, Bernhard Raimann 'beyond blessed' to remain part of Colts organization

The Colts signed Raimann to a contract extension on Tuesday.

WESTFIELD, Ind. – Bernhard Raimann doesn't want to be anywhere but Indianapolis, and he doesn't want to be anything but a member of the Colts.

The left tackle has, in the first three years of his career, gone through his share of rookie struggles and grown to cement himself as an integral part of the Colts' offensive line. And in signing a contract extension with the Colts on Tuesday, Raimann ensured he'd continue to be a key part of the organization – and the Colts locked down a dedicated and experienced player.

"Just really grateful to be a part of this organization, grateful for the Irsay family and Mr. Ballard," Raimann said Tuesday. "We've always wanted to be here, so it's such a blessing to be here."

After being selected in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Raimann put in extensive amounts of work to become the highly rated offensive tackle he is now – the native Austrian didn't start playing football until high school, and even then began as a tight end before converting to offensive line in college.

Now, Raimann has developed into one of the top offensive tackles in the league, starting in 40 games over the last three seasons. In 2024, Raimann earned an 85.1 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, good for eighth among all NFL tackles.

While he has always believed in himself and had faith everything would work out as it was meant to, there was also a part of Raimann that never thought far enough into the future to imagine what a day like Tuesday would look like.

"Just taking it day by day, trying to make the most of my opportunities," Raimann explained. "But obviously, I've been very fortunate. God put these opportunities in my life, and I've had some amazing people that – it always takes a village. I've had some amazing people that supported me through it all, gave me strength. So it's been daily improvements and just a day-by-day mindset ever since, and now we're just beyond blessed to be here."

Raimann mentioned by name late Owner & CEO Jim Irsay, general manager Chris Ballard, head coach Shane Steichen and offensive line coach Tony Sparano Jr., recognizing their continued belief in him. And if he had time, Raimann likely would have named all of his teammates as well.

"I gotta give so much credit to them," Raimann said. "Because without them I wouldn't be here."

As Raimann prepares for the rest of training camp and the 2025 season with the security a contract extension provides, he now has two main goals in mind: be the best tackle in the league and help the team win on Sundays.

"It's all about the team, all about football," he said. "Winning some games for the Colts but (also) for Indiana, and I'm just excited to be doing that."
