BALTIMORE – On the second drive of the Colts' preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens Thursday night, Anthony Richarson Sr. went down hard after getting sacked and did not return to the game due to a finger injury. The Colts would go on to lose to the Ravens, 24-16.

Richardson's first drive was a mixed bag of short passes and handoffs, including a short, accurate pass to rookie tight end Tyler Warren and a 15-yard completion to wide receiver Adonai Mitchell. The drive ended with a 53-yard field goal from kicker Spencer Shrader to put the Colts up 3-0.

The Ravens, led by quarterback Cooper Rush, responded quickly with a touchdown drive of their own, bringing Richardson back onto the field just minutes later.

It was on the second play of that drive, though, when Richardson took a hard hit from Ravens linebacker David Ojabo and exited the game. Daniel Jones came in to replace Richardson on the drive and remained in the game until halftime.

Jones led the Colts on two scoring drives – both of which ended in field goals from Shrader – and completed 10-of-21 passes for a total of 144 yards. Jones primarily worked with short passes and handoffs; his longest pass of the evening was a 25-yard completion to wide receiver Ashton Dulin, a play in which Jones had to escape the pocket and throw on the run to Dulin, who made the catch in heavy coverage.

Rookie quarterback Riley Leonard came into the game to start the third quarter and led the Colts on their first touchdown drive of the night, putting together a seven-play, 54-yard drive that ended in a one-yard rushing touchdown from running back Khalil Herbert. Leonard played the entirety of the second half, going 12-for-24 for 92 yards. He also rushed for 34 yards on four attempts.

With the majority of the Colts' starters (on both sides of the ball) not dressing Thursday night, players like Dulin and tight end Will Mallory as well as rookies J.T. Tuimoloau and Hunter Wohler, had more opportunities to make plays.

Mallory had an impressive catch along the sideline, Tuimoloau recorded one sack, one pass defensed, two quarterback hits and two tackles for a loss and Wohler led the team with seven tackles (five solo). Defensive tackle Adetomiwa Adebawore also recorded a sack, and linebacker Joe Bachie and cornerback Alex Johnson each snagged an interception.

Another bright spot for the Colts was Shrader's performance, as he made a 53-yard field goal, a 39-yard field goal and a 33-yard field goal (he did miss a 52-yarder). In 2024, Shrader's longest made field goal was 45 yards. Rookie tight end Tyler Warren also had a strong first showing in the horseshoe, with three completions on three targets for a total 40 yards.

The Colts face the Ravens in Week 1 of the 2025 preseason at M&T Bank Stadium.
