SEATTLE – Philip Rivers took the field late in the fourth quarter at 44 years old, 1,800 days after last playing, in one of the NFL's toughest road environments and had a chance to lead a go-ahead drive.

He did – but the Seahawks still managed a last-second win.

After Colts kicker Blake Grupe made a go-ahead 60-yard field goal 52 seconds left, a 16-yard completion from quarterback Sam Darnold to wide receiver Rasheed Shaheed quickly moved the Seahawks into Colts territory. That was followed by an eight-yard completion to Shaheed, which moved Seattle into range for kicker Jason Myers.

Myers then connected on his sixth and final field goal of the game, a 56-yarder, with 18 seconds left.

The Colts got the ball back with 11 seconds left at their own 30-yard line, but Rivers was intercepted on a desperation pass downfield.

The loss dropped the Colts to 8-6 on the season and was their fourth consecutive defeat.

The Colts' game plan looked to be to pound the run, have Rivers make a couple of throws and take the air out of the ball, which worked well in the first half.

The Colts went into halftime with a 13-6 lead behind possessing the ball for 19:02 of the first 30 minutes. That time of possession imbalance was thanks to the Colts picking up 10 first downs against just four for the Seahawks; defensively, Laiatu Latu made a number of key plays, including a third down sack of quarterback Sam Darnold.

Those plays helped the Colts tilt field position in their favor. Kicker Blake Grupe connected on field goals from 42 and 54 yards in the first 30 minutes; late in the second quarter, Rivers threw the 422nd touchdown pass of his career when – from a clean pocket – he picked out wide receiver Josh Downs on third-and-three for a seven-yard score.

The Seahawks mustered just two field goals in the first half, with the latter of them a 52-yarder by kicker Jason Myers as time expired in the second quarter.

Seattle gained just 80 yards in the first half; it was the fewest yards the Colts had allowed in the first half since Week 1 of this season against the Miami Dolphins.

A fourth-and-three conversion ultimately netted Seattle three more points to begin the second half, which cut the Colts' lead to four points.

The two teams traded punts until Darnold hit a pair of explosive completions late in the third quarter, first to wide receiver Rasheed Shaheed for 27 yards and then, on a third-and-three, to wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a gain of 29. The latter of those completions moved the Seahawks into the red zone for the first time on Sunday as the third quarter came to a close.

But the Colts' defense again steeled itself, forcing a Darnold incompletion on third-and-seven and leading to Myers hitting a 34-yard field goal, which dropped the Colts' advantage to a single point with about 13 and a half minutes left.

A third-and-eight pass interference drawn by wide receiver Alec Pierce, and a couple of efficient runs by Taylor, pushed the Colts into Seahawks territory on the ensuing drive. But a high snap on first-and-10 at the 44-yard line stopped the Colts' momentum, and after a third-and-five screen to running back Ameer Abdullah was stopped for a loss of three, the Colts again had to punt.

Darnold linked up with Smith-Njigba for a 39-yard gain to move Seattle into Colts territory on the ensuing possession. Seattle was able to grind down the clock but again was not able to get into the end zone, as Myers' fifth field goal of the game – this one from 30 yards out – put the Seahawks up, 15-13, with 2:27 remaining.

That's when things went crazy with long field goals – with the Colts coming out on the wrong end of it.

The Colts take on the Seattle Seahawks in Week 15 at Lumen Field.
