As the 6-1 Colts prepared for their Week 8 game against the 1-6 Tennessee Titans, they did so with one thing in mind: win.
They knew anything could happen on any given Sunday in the NFL, so while all the numbers pointed to Sunday's game being a lopsided matchup that heavily favored the Colts in just about every way, that doesn't mean the Colts took their feet off the gas at any point against their division opponent.
Entering Lucas Oil Stadium as the most efficient offense in the NFL (averaging 3.46 points per drive), Daniel Jones and the rest of the Colts offense did not disappoint as they racking up over 400 yards of offense and put up at least 30 points for the sixth time this season to win 38-14.
The Colts opened the scoring with a 43-yard field goal on their first possession of the afternoon, on a drive that included impressive completions to wide receivers Alec Pierce and Josh Downs.
The Titans attempted to answer back on their following possession, but a combined sack from defensive end Laiatu Latu and cornerback Kenny Moore II forced a punt before Tennessee could cross the 50-yard line.
Running back Jonathan Taylor took control on the Colts' second possession of the quarter, carving out multiple explosive runs on the eight-play, 73-yard drive. And thanks to the continued dominance of the offensive line, Taylor capped off the drive with an 18-yard run for the Colts' first touchdown of the day.
That score was Taylor's 62nd career rushing touchdown, for the fifth-most rushing touchdowns by an NFL player in his first 75 career games in the Super Bowl era.
After the Titans responded in kind with a touchdown to start the second quarter, the Colts promptly went on another scoring drive of their own, this time ending in a spectacular catch from wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr.. That touchdown was Pittman's sixth of the season, matching the career-high he set in 2021.
The two teams traded possessions for the rest of the half, neither able to reach the red zone. The Colts took a 17-7 lead into halftime after Titans kicker Joey Slye missed a 58-yard field goal attempt.
The Colts quickly came back out to set the tone in the second half, though: Taylor exploded for an 80-yard house call, putting the Colts up 24-7 and scoring his 63rd career rushing touchdown and tying Lenny Moore for second in Colts history. With the touchdown, Taylor passed Raymond Berry for the fifth-most total career touchdowns in franchise history with 69.
The Titans went three-and-out to quickly return the ball to Jones' hands, and he got the ball downfield even quicker with a 50-yard completion to Pierce to put the Colts' at Tennessee's 12-yard line. Two plays later, the Colts continued their theme of being efficient and versatile as Downs was the one to launch across the goal line.
The Colts' defense continued to come up big when needed, with defensive tackle DeForest Buckner sacking quarterback Cam Ward to force a turnover on downs. And the offense continued to take advantage of its opportunities, as Taylor crossed into the end zone – this time, with a receiving touchdown.
Taylor now has four games this season with three total touchdowns to his name and is up to 14 touchdowns on the season.
Cornerback Chris Lammons intercepted Ward in the end zone and, with just under seven minutes left in the fourth quarter, rookie Riley Leonard took over for Jones and made his first appearance as an NFL quarterback. The Colts were able to rest the majority of their starters for the remainder of the game.
With the win, the Colts improved to 7-1 on the season, still in possession of the best record in the NFL.
