Shonica is a native of Greensboro, North Carolina. She moved to the Midwest three years ago and resides in Noblesville, IN. Leaving her close-knit family and friends behind was not an easy task. "I admire my mother…she's amazing at everything, never stops trying to improve and is the most kind-hearted person I know." With Shonica's dance background, trying out for the Colts was an easy choice. "I thought being a cheerleader would be a great way to volunteer, meet new people and be involved in the Indianapolis community."
This is Shonica's third year with the Colts cheerleaders. After cheering in college, she spent two years performing for the Charlotte Bobcats and four years dancing in the Arena Football League, where she also gained some coaching experience. Her impressive dance background and leadership skills earned her the title of squad captain with the Colts once again. As a captain, she is responsible for teaching dances and making sure her squad is always at their best. Shonica even choreographed several routines for the 2008-09 season.
Off the field, Shonica stays busy as an active member of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority. She works selling medical devices to surgeons throughout Indianapolis. Eventually, she would like to go back to school to obtain her MBA. Also on her to-do list is learning a second language and possibly living abroad for a little while, preferably somewhere warm and sunny!
Like many of her teammates, Shonica has great memories of cheering in the rain at Super Bowl XLI and entertaining our troops in Japan, Hawaii and Kosovo. "It's been an amazing experience!" She thinks of the squad as a big family. "We depend on each other and are always there for each other." You can see Shonica cheering with her squad at every home game this season!
