Adam Vinatieri Tops All AFC Kickers In Final Pro Bowl Fan Voting; Four Other Colts In Top-Three

The National Football League on Friday announced on Friday the leading fan Pro Bowl vote getters at each position, and the Indianapolis Colts’ Adam Vinatieri had more votes than any other AFC kicker. Where did other Colts players rank in the top 10 at their positions?

INDIANAPOLIS — You did it, Colts Nation.

Your efforts over the final two days of 2019 Pro Bowl fan voting this week not only made Adam Vinatieri the top vote getter at the kicker position in the AFC, but four other Indianapolis Colts players also ended up finishing among the top-three at their respective positions in the AFC, which could officially check off the first of three boxes needed to earn a spot on the final Pro Bowl roster.

The fan vote is so important for the Pro Bowl, because players for the game are determined by the consensus votes of fans, players and coaches. Each group's vote counts one-third toward determining the 88 All-Star players who will be selected to the Pro Bowl.

(Colts.com is working to confirm with the league that the four Indy players in the top-three at their positions [not including Vinatieri] have, indeed, earned the fan portion of Pro Bowl voting; we will update this story when we hear back.)

NFL players and coaches casted their votes today. Rosters will be announced live on the NFL Network's "Pro Bowl Special" at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday. The 2019 Pro Bowl, which will feature the traditional AFC vs. NFC game format, will kickoff at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019, at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla.

» Vinatieri had 161,752 total fan votes, which were the second most of any NFL kicker, trailing only the New Orleans Saints' Wil Lutz, according to a league release. Thanks to Colts fans, Vinatieri jumped up four spots from sixth place, where he was ranked in fan voting heading into this final week. Vinatieri, who is looking to earn his fourth Pro Bowl appearance, is hoping to be the one and only placekicker chosen for the AFC squad.

» Quarterback Andrew Luck jumped from eighth place last week to fifth place in the final fan voting totals, but because he is the second among AFC quarterbacks (trailing only the Kansas City Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes), Luck could check off the "fan voting" box to possibly be one of three quarterbacks on the AFC team. Luck is also looking to be named to his fourth-career Pro Bowl.

» Eric Ebron stayed steady at fourth place among all NFL tight ends — and second in the AFC, trailing only the Chiefs' Travis Kelce — so he could check off the "fan voting" box to be one of two tight ends on the AFC squad. Ebron — who is tied for the league lead in touchdown receptions (12) — is looking to earn his first Pro Bowl selection, and make it two Colts Pro Bowl tight ends in two years, as Jack Doyle also earned his first Pro Bowl nod last year.

» Quenton Nelson stayed steady at third place among all NFL guards — and second in the AFC, behind the Pittsburgh Steelers' David DeCastro — so the rookie out of Notre Dame also could check off the "fan voting" box to possibly be one of three guards on the AFC squad. Nelson could be the first Colts offensive lineman to be named to the Pro Bowl since center Jeff Saturday in 2010, the first Indy rookie selected to the Pro Bowl since Luck back in 2012 and the first Colts rookie offensive lineman selected to the Pro Bowl since Chris Hinton in 1983.

» Darius Leonard jumped up one spot in the final week of fan voting from fifth place to fourth place at outside linebacker, putting him third in the AFC — only behind the Denver Broncos' Von Miller and the Pittsburgh Steelers' T.J. Watt. But because the AFC Pro Bowl team will have three total outside linebackers, Leonard also could check the "fan voting" box. Also hoping to be the first Indy rookie voted to the Pro Bowl since Luck in 2012, Leonard could also be the first Colts rookie defensive Pro Bowler since defensive back Rick Volk back in 1967 (defensive back Bruce Laird was selected to the Pro Bowl in 1972, but he was a return specialist).
