Colts Daily Notebook: Limited Wednesday, Anthony Castonzo Misses Thursday's Practice

Indianapolis Colts left tackle Anthony Castonzo, who was hoping to battle back from a hamstring injury to play Sunday against the Washington Redskins, did not participate in practice on Thursday. What else did we learn on the day?

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Colts left tackle Anthony Castonzo was one of four players who did not participate in Thursday's practice — with just three days to go until the team's Week 2 matchup against the Washington Redskins.

Castonzo, who has been battling a hamstring injury off and on for the better part of two months, was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, but on Thursday was not out with the team in the early portion of practice available to be seen by the media; he was officially listed as "DNP" when the team's injury report came out later in the day.

It's unknown why Castonzo missed practice on Thursday. Colts head coach Frank Reich, who did not speak with reporters today, is scheduled to talk to the media tomorrow around 1:05 p.m., after practice. The team will likely announce who is questionable, doubtful and out against the Redskins later in the afternoon on Friday.

Castonzo originally suffered his hamstring injury during a private workout before the start of training camp, and although he was eventually able to return to the practice field during camp, he re-aggravated the same hamstring injury Aug. 3, and missed the rest of training camp, as well as the entire preseason.

He was held out of last Sunday's 2018 season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals as a precaution, but told reporters on Wednesday that he was expected to be "full-go" this week and was confident he'd be back at left tackle for the Colts on Sunday against the Redskins.

"Feeling good," Castonzo said prior to Wednesday's practice. "I'm excited to have a full week of practice and get out there and play."

Against the Bengals, the Colts used third-year veteran Joe Haeg in Castonzo's spot at left tackle, while J'Marcus Webb played right tackle. But Webb would suffer a hamstring injury late in the game, and was placed on injured reserve this week.

Those currently available to play right tackle if Haeg is over on the left side once again against the Redskins are Le'Raven Clark, Mark Glowinski and Braden Smith. Denzelle Good, perhaps the team's top swing tackle during the offseason program, continues to be week-to-week with knee and wrist injuries, and hasn't practiced since prior to the team's third preseason game.

Notable quotable

"Well, it's something that we're going to continue to build throughout the course of the year and we don't know who are starting five are going to be week in and week out. We are hoping everybody is healthy, that's always the goal. But the way our room is made up is we view like anybody could step in and work exactly the same. It isn't just about the starting five, it's about everybody getting better every week." — Colts guard Matt Slauson, on building a rapport and solid communication along the offensive line despite having an inconsistent lineup each week.

Injury report

Here's Thursday's full practice report:

» DNP: DT/DE Denico Autry (ankle); T Anthony Castonzo (hamstring); T/G Denzelle Good (knee/wrist); CB Chris Milton (concussion)

» Limited: S Clayton Geathers (knee); RB Marlon Mack (hamstring)

» Full: WR Ryan Grant (chest); DT Grover Stewart (shoulder)

— Another name to watch is Autry, the Colts' starting three-technique along the defensive line who was limited on Wednesday, but did not practice on Thursday.

— Stewart, meanwhile, was limited on Wednesday with his shoulder injury, but was a full participant on Thursday.
