The Colts are now tied with the Jacksonville Jaguars for first place in the AFC South, as both teams sit at 8-4 following the Colts' loss to the Houston Texans and the Jaguars' win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
Next weekend's game will prove crucial for the Colts in terms of controlling their own destiny for the remainder of the season; the Colts travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars in one of their two remaining games against their AFC South foe this season.
The Jaguars will enter Sunday's game having won three consecutive games (and four of their last five games), coming off a methodical and decisive 25-3 win over the Titans.
"One week at a time," head coach Liam Coen said. "1-0 for the rest of the way. We're giving ourselves an opportunity to play meaningful games in November and December, and ultimately that's all you can ask for in this league."
In the win, quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw two touchdowns and completed 16-of-27 passes for 229 yards. He was also sacked three times. Running back Bayshul Tuten scored the Jaguars' lone rushing touchdown of the day, as their run game was limited to just 21 carries for 70 yards. Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, playing in his fourth game with the Jaguars after he was acquired in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, had a standout day with six receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown.
"I thought we got a pretty good rhythm early," Lawrence said. "Guys got open, guys made plays after the catch, so it was really good. Obviously, some stuff in the second half we've got to clean up. We've got to continue to get better and see what we can improve on...obviously, our defense played great, too. We got a short field that we took advantage of."
After allowing a Titans field goal on their first drive of the game, the Jaguars responded quickly with two touchdowns and a field goal of their own in the first half. The second half saw the Jaguars score a touchdown on their lone third-quarter possession and then punt three times before the end of the game.
Their defense largely held them in the game, holding the Titans to 188 total yards at an average of 3.4 yards per play. They forced three turnovers on downs, recovered two fumbles and sacked quarterback Cam Ward three times; Ward completed 24-of-38 passes for 141 yards.
It is worth noting that the Jaguars had 13 penalties for 98 yards in Sunday's game.
Wide receiver Parker Washington sustained a hip injury and left tackle Walker Little sustained a concussion. Neither player returned to the game following their respective injuries. Defensive tackle Arik Armstead, the team's sacks leader this season with 5.5, missed Sunday's game with a hand injury.
