Training Camp Quotes, 8/7/03

WR-REGGIE WAYNE (on the improvement of his play) “My goal for my career is to get better and better each year. That goes with a lot of hard work in the off-season.

WR-REGGIE WAYNE (on the improvement of his play)

"My goal for my career is to get better and better each year. That goes with a lot of hard work in the off-season. I want to come out here and do what I am capable of doing, which is to make plays. I want to do what I can to get this offense to the next level."

QB-PEYTON MANNING (on preparation for Saturday's game against the Chicago Bears)

"Well, we just started today. The game plan is made specifically for Chicago. This is going to be a condensed preparation. Everybody is looking forward to playing somebody different. At the same time, we want to go up there and win."

QB-PEYTON MANNING (on his playing time on Saturday)

"I will play as much as Coach Dungy would like me to play. The main goal is to go up there (Champaign), play well and work on some different things."

QB-PEYTON MANNING (on if he will play more on Saturday because of QB-Brock Huard's injury)

"I am not sure how that is going to work out. Obviously, it is going to change the plan a little bit. Usually, you have four quarterbacks, but it looks like we are going to go most of training camp with three. Whatever Tony's plan is, I know it will be a good one and I will follow his lead."

QB-PEYTON MANNING (on how the receivers will be used on Saturday)

"We have some good athletes and those guys are looking forward to playing on Saturday. I always thought that in a game a receiver could really show what he could do. Some guys might not be the fastest in practice, but all of a sudden they get in a game and they catch that five-yard pass. They are football players and they can make plays. You see that in the preseason with Drew Haddad. He is not the fast receiver but he catches the ball consistently. When he gets into games, he makes one-handed catches and he has been good on punt returns. Next thing you know, he has a job."

QB-PEYTON MANNING (on the progress of WR-Reggie Wayne)

"Reggie's had a really great camp. He has been consistent catching the ball. He has made some one-handed catches. He has been good at the bump and run, which is something that he wanted to work on. Whether he is the number one or number two receiver, he will be out on the field. He will be a big part of our offense this year."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on preseason games)

"I think preseason games are great. You get different things done. You get different situations playing on the road. Offensively, you want to emphasize certain things in a certain way. Defense is the same way."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on QB-Brock Huard's injury having an affect on the quarterback rotation)

"We are going to play James MacPherson and Jim Kubiak more in these first two games and Brock (Huard) will get his work in the last two games. They might get a chance play against Chicago's first group and certainly against the second. It will be good to see how they rise to the occasion."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on WR-Reggie Wayne)

"Reggie had a good year for us last year. He made some big plays. He's got the feel of things and what it is like to be a major contributor. Now, this year he has got the idea that he wants to start and really step up the pace. So far in camp he has done that and he is looking very good."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on WR-Reggie Wayne's consistency)

"He has had some big games and big catches for us. What we would like to do is get that every week. It is a matter of him getting the playing time, but really getting the confidence that comes with playing all the time."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on LB-Rob Morris's injury)

"Rob Morris went in and got an MRI. He ended up getting a scope where they found some loose bodies. They were able to get them out cleanly with no problems. He will probably miss two games. He will be fine by the end of the preseason. It was not a major issue, but we wanted to take care of it.
