INDIANAPOLIS – The lines formed well before the noon start of the book signing.
Up and down the aisles inside the Walmart in Carmel on Tuesday, people of all ages clutched their Uncommon Marriage book and waited anxiously for the authors, Tony Dungy and his wife, Lauren.
Once the couple took their seats it was time to break out the sharpies, take some pictures and introduce themselves to the hundreds of people ready to read the couple's newest project.
"We've been married 31 years and we've learned from lessons and principles on the way," Lauren said of the book's message. "We wanted to share them with the readers and give some secrets and tips on having a long, lasting relationship."
It's been a busy three days back in Indiana for the Dungy's.
On Tuesday, the two took part in book signings in Anderson and Fort Wayne.
They followed that up with a trip to Terre Haute and then to Bloomington for the IU/Penn State game on Wednesday.
The signing at Walmart was the final in the state of Indiana as the Dungy's returned to the area they called home for several years.
"The turnout is pretty phenomenal and it's been all week," Tony said on Thursday. "The Colts fans are out, no question."
Since leading the Colts to Super Bowl XLI, Dungy has published *Quiet Strength: The Principles, Practices, and Priorities of a Winning Life, *which took the top spot on the New York Times Best Seller list in the summer of 2007.
The book business isn't the only avenue that has kept the Super Bowl winning coach busy since retirement.
As a weekly analyst on NBC's Sunday Night Football, Dungy has been frequently asked about his former players.
Robert Mathis is a player Dungy holds in high regard and the coach was thrilled to see No. 98 take home the sack crown in 2013.
"Unbelievable," Dungy, who coached Mathis for six years, said of the All-Pro's 2013 season.
"Robert came here when I was first starting and you knew he was going to be good."
"You see double-digit sack years but to be this far along in his career and go to (19.5), that is incredible. He's just a tremendous worker, a great person and I'm happy to see him have that success."
The Colts appeared on Sunday Night Football twice in 2013 and delivered with a pair of thrilling wins over Denver and Houston.
More primetime games could be on the horizon in 2014 and Dungy thinks the Colts success will continue moving forward.
"They remind me of where we were when I was here (the early years)," Dungy said.
"You are putting things together, really in that top echelon of teams and just need everything to go right in the playoffs. With Andrew Luck leading them and the defense coach (Chuck) Pagano has put together, I see them knocking at the door every year."
