PRESIDENT BILL POLIAN (on second round draft pick LB-Pat Angerer) [
Friday,
"With our pick in the second round we chose Pat Angerer, middle linebacker from Iowa. He runs really well, team captain, tough, hard-nosed player, coached by the same position coach who coached LB-Gary Brackett at Rutgers. Very, very similar players. If you like the way Gary plays, you'll like the way Pat plays. He's in the mold of pretty much all the players that we have on our team: tough, hard-nosed, physical guy, to steal a phrase from Coach (Caldwell), smart, fast and physical. And the fact that he is a Hawkeye didn't hurt."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (on LB-Pat Angerer) Friday, April 23, 2010
"He's a guy that has a lot of range. He can certainly cover the field. He's a guy with great anticipation, certainly understands defensive concepts extremely well. So we think he'll be a good fit for us, in particular with some of the things that we do. From a physical standpoint, he does a lot of the same things that Gary does, so it's certainly a good fit in that regard."
PRESIDENT BILL POLIAN (on if this is a selection where he is hoping that LB-Pat Angerer can fill in behind LB-Gary Brackett down the road) Friday, April 23, 2010
"We'll see. Hopefully, he can come in and play a major role for us from day one, in the nickel and on special teams. We felt we needed a very quality backup for Gary there. Once you get up in years in this game injuries sometimes happen. Let's hope they don't. Gary had a great year last year. I hope he has three or four more. This is a player that is definitely going to help our football team, no question about it. He was the right guy on the board at that time. And as we often say, 'Let the board talk to us,' and it did loudly and clearly."
