QB-VINNY TESTAVERDE (on not expecting to be doing conference calls a month ago and how it has all played out) Wednesday, October 24, 2007
"No, not in the NFL anyway. It's been great. Every year I say the same thing to myself: 'As long as I'm healthy and having fun and I'm contributing to a team, I want to be part of the NFL.' So each year for the last five or six years, it seems to work out that somebody needs another quarterback. I seem to land on my feet and find myself contributing and having fun and doing those things that I talked about."
QB-VINNY TESTAVERDE (on how he keeps himself prepared) Wednesday, October 24, 2007
"The thing is, I kind of make working out my lifestyle anyway. So I'm in the gym every morning, I'm lifting weights, I'm on the treadmill doing some of the things. The only things that I don't do are football-specific things like throwing or dropping back. And I've done that for so long that I just felt like if I got called back like I did with the Panthers, that I could just slip right in to form within a couple of days and go from there."
QB-VINNY TESTAVERDE (on if he will eventually not play because he is not into it mentally more than physically) Wednesday, October 24, 2007
"I certainly hope that's the case because nobody wants to see their skill diminish or retire from injury. I hope at some point I will come to the realization that I played a long time, and let these young boys go at it for a while and that they can do without me."
QB-VINNY TESTAVERDE (on if he or David Carr is starting) Wednesday, October 24, 2007
"I guess it's staying a secret for now. Coach (John Fox) really hasn't really told us anything other than just be ready. We both took snaps today in practice. I have prepared over the years the same way, whether I'm starting or coming in as a backup. I prepare like I'm the starter. I'll watch film, I'll ask questions, I'll make sure that I know what I have to do to be ready to step into the game in any situation."
QB-VINNY TESTAVERDE (on if he and David Carr are helping each other prepare) Wednesday, October 24, 2007
"Yes. As a matter of fact, I talked to David today and I just told him, 'Listen, I'm in your corner. If Coach (John Fox) goes with you, I'm behind you, and I'd love to win a ring watching you take all the snaps this year. If there's anything I can help you with, whether it be on the field or in the classroom or any other way, I'm here to help.'"
QB-VINNY TESTAVERDE (on if NFC teams, who don't often play the Colts, have a more difficult time facing the Colts and Peyton Manning because a lack of familiarity) Wednesday, October 24, 2007
"I just think Peyton Manning has had a lot of success no matter who he's playing. He's just on top of his game and one of the best quarterbacks that I've seen play in a long, long time. He'll go down as one of the best quarterbacks in history. And there's a guy up in New England (Tom Brady) that I feel the same way about. They do everything well. They know how to use their weapons, they know how to use their snap counts. Whatever it is, they take advantage of everything they can possibly use in a game."
