Tony Dungy Quotes

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (opening comments) “I’m going to start with the (WR) Marvin Harrison situation. I know a lot of questions have been asked about that.

[

"I'm going to start with the (WR) Marvin Harrison situation. I know a lot of questions have been asked about that. From our standpoint, there's nothing new. No new information has came to us in the last two months, so there's really nothing to say and nothing that we're handling any differently until we hear something from the authorities in Pennsylvania.

"As far as the book, it's another one. That focus will be after our football season is over. Right now, we're just focused in on trying to beat the Ravens."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on who will return kicks with the release of Justin Forsett)

"We signed (DB) Keiwan Ratliff back and also signed (DB) Nick Graham. Probably, (WR) Pierre Garcon will return kickoffs and Keiwan Ratliff will return punts."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on Baltimore's running game)

"They have more of a smash-mouth, downhill running game. They have big backs and big offensive linemen. They try to pound it right at you. We're going to have to bow up and get ready to play that. They're averaging 41 runs per game, and all of their games have been either close or they've had the lead, so that's what we're gearing in to expect."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on if Baltimore's mindset is to run)

"Yes. They're playing physical on both sides of the ball. They have a lot of confidence in their defense. They feel like they can make first downs and pound it out, and they've done that. They have three backs that run it in there pretty good."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on if QB-Peyton Manning gets a kick out of playing defenses like Baltimore's)

"I think he does. I think he enjoys the challenge. Any time we play against Baltimore, the quarterback has to do well. It's not necessarily going to be in stats or touchdown passes, but he has to have a great game to move the ball on those guys, and I think Peyton does relish that challenge."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on the keys to stopping Baltimore's running game)

"For us, we just have to play fast. It's a downhill running game, but they have a lot of formations and shifts and motions to try to slow you down. We can't get paralyzed by where they are. We have to be able to pull the trigger and hit those running alleys. And then, you have to tackle well. These are big guys that don't get knocked back very often, and we're going to have to do that."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on the differences in Baltimore under John Harbaugh)

"Really, no difference on defense. They're doing the same things and playing the same way. Offensively, maybe they have a little bit more mindset of pounding the football, and a little bit of different things on special teams. I think it's the same mentality that we've always seen. They're going to be physically tough and try to make it very, very difficult for you to move the ball, try to create field position with their defense and play those low-scoring games and get on top of you and not let you breathe. I think there's a lot similar in the results. As far as how they do it, that may be different, I don't know, but what they're trying to get done is pretty much the same."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on if it helps having seen Offensive Coordinator Cam Cameron in San Diego)

"I'm sure it does, and it's going to help him, too. I'm sure they're going to take some of the things that they did well against us with the Chargers and do that. It's a very similar offense to what we saw from those guys, a lot of motion, and a lot of use of the tight ends. They've done a good job against us in the past, so we expect to see some of the same things."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on Baltimore sustaining defensive success for so long)

"They have. They've been a top defense against scoring and top against the run. For years, they've been in the top-three, probably ever since (LB) Ray Lewis has been there, and that probably goes hand in hand. They're built that way. They believe that's how they're going to win games. That unit believes they can win games themselves, and that's a great mentality to have."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on scoring 44 points against Baltimore last season)

"We don't have many of those against those guys. We caught them where they had some DBs injured. They were coming off a real emotional game that they lost at the wire against New England. We played them on a short week and we got up quick, but most of the games that we've had against them have really been struggles."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on being winless at Lucas Oil Stadium)

"It's been a long time since we won at home if you factor in the pre-season games, the playoff game (vs. San Diego) last year and the Tennessee game. It's been a long, long time and we need to get a home winning streak started."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on the PUP players being eligible to return next week)

"(LB) Tyjuan (Hagler) is definitely feeling like he's going to be ready to go the first day he gets an opportunity. (OG) Ryan (Lilja) is doing some different things, rehabbing, and we are hoping he's ready. I'd be surprised if Tyjuan is not ready to go."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on if RB-Mike Hart could get more carries)

"The problem we've had is we haven't had the ball enough. We'd like to get (RB) Dominic (Rhodes) more carries. We have to do better on defense, be a little bit better on 3rd down, and force some more take-aways so our offense has the ball more. Then, we get Dominic more carries and it'd be great to get Mike some as well."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on Baltimore QB-Joe Flacco)

"He's going to be a very, very good player for them. Right now, he has great chemistry going with (WR) Derrick Mason. He's throwing the ball well, he moves around in the pocket pretty well and he's pretty accurate. He has the typical rookie deals of trying to make plays and trying to force balls in sometimes, and he's had some interception troubles because of that. That, he'll learn, but you see the talent and you see what they like about him. He has a little bit of a swagger."
