*APRIL 24, 2010 – 7TH-ROUND DRAFT CHOICE CONFERENCE CALLS *
DT-RICARDO MATHEWS (on if he was getting nervous) Saturday, April 24, 2010
"I was. My stomach was hurting. A couple teardrops came out of my eyes, but it's all good."
DT-RICARDO MATHEWS (on what he was doing when the Colts called and told him they were drafting him) Saturday, April 24, 2010
"I was sitting on my couch, petting my dog."
DT-RICARDO MATHEWS (on what he brings to the team) Saturday, April 24, 2010
"First and foremost, I'm about to bring a character probably nobody has seen before. I'm confident of that. More importantly, my physical strength and my ability to stick to the ball playing the defensive line and my coaching ability, taking good coaching and running with it. I'm never going to do anything to hurt the team. I'm always here to help the team. I'll (fill) water bottles if I have to."
DT-RICARDO MATHEWS (on if he prefers playing defensive tackle or defensive end) Saturday, April 24, 2010
"I kind of like getting the big guys off-track because they don't know that I'm that quick, so I have more fun with three-technique, being more in the commotion, but it's always fun rushing off the edge."
DT-RICARDO MATHEWS (on moving into the starting lineup as a senior and if he expected to become a draft pick) Saturday, April 24, 2010
"Yes, I did. I really did because it's just something that clicks in your mind when you're a senior. You have to put something extra in your motor. You have to go hard everyday because this is your last everything. This is the first of the rest of your life that you're dealing with, trying to get drafted into the NFL. Just that mindset of a senior, getting that leadership role, you just take it and you run with it. The coaches expect you as a senior to take control of the team and that's what me and the rest of my 13 seniors on the team this season did. We came away 12-0 on the regular season, lost to the ( Florida) Gators (in the Sugar Bowl), but that happens to the best of us. I'm still happy with everything that happened this season."
LB-KAVELL CONNER (on being drafted near the end of the draft)
"It definitely was (nerve wrecking) but it was definitely worth it."
LB-KAVELL CONNER (on his thoughts about the Colts)
"They're a great franchise. First class, they're definitely a franchise you want to play for. They have a lot of high-character guys, and I feel like I can be a part of that as well."
LB-KAVELL CONNER (on his preference of playing inside or outside)
"I really don't have a preference. I'm just looking to get in there and learn the system. Wherever I fit best is where I'll play."
DB-RAY FISHER (on his reaction to being drafted by the Colts) [
"I love it. It's right here. I wanted to come here. I wish they would have done it earlier."
DB-RAY FISHER (on if the Colts had given him any indication that they were going to draft him) Saturday, April 24, 2010
"They called me a couple times and asked me a couple questions. They called me prior to the draft and they called me today, twice. They just asked me a couple of questions, and then he asked me if I wanted to be a Colt. I said, 'Yes,' and he said they had a pick coming up."
DB-RAY FISHER (on what he brings to the return game) Saturday, April 24, 2010
"I bring a lot of excitement. I know I can bring a lot of excitement to Indianapolis. I'm not saying they don't have great players, but they haven't had that big, impact kick returner, and I think I can bring that to the team."
