INDIANAPOLIS – The active offseason for Chris Ballard has continued in the undrafted free agent phase, as well.
When the 2017 Draft ended last Saturday, the Colts had room for just seven undrafted free agents.
A few days later, after the Colts waived 11 players off their 90-man roster, Ballard signed 18 undrafted guys.
Who are the 18 undrafted free agents the Colts have in 2017?
- OG-Deyshawn Bond (Cincinnati): A Warren Central High School product, the Colts got a close look at Bond during their Local Pro Day in early April. Bond was a four-year starter at Cincinnati.
- RB-Dalton Crossan (New Hampshire): After 5,189 all-purpose yards and 36 touchdowns at New Hampshire, Crossan had a very impressive Pro Day showing off his shiftiness and athleticism. Crossan does have kick return experience from college.
- TE-Darrell Daniels (Washington): The length and hands of Daniels are offensive linemen size. Daniels' 4.55 40-yard dash time at the Combine was also very impressive. The Colts did not draft a tight end after raving about the depth at that position in 2017.
- WR-Trey Griffey (Arizona): Yes, Griffey is the son of Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. At Arizona last year, Griffey had 382 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
- LS-Thomas Hennessy (Duke): With Matt Overton released on Monday, it looks like the starting long snapper job is Hennessy's when he joins the team. If Hennessy does start in 2017, he will be the third long snapper Adam Vinatieri has had in his 12 years with the Colts.
- WR-Bug Howard (North Carolina): The 6-4, 221-pound Howard caught 18 touchdowns in his career at North Carolina. Howard had 53 catches for 827 yards last season.
- TE-Colin Jeter (LSU): Jeter comes to the Colts following three seasons playing for LSU. At 6-6 and 251 pounds, Jeter started 17 career games in the SEC, catching 23 passes.
- WR-Jerome Lane (Akron): A former basketball player, who started his football career at Akron playing defense, Lane eventually settled in at receiver. The 226-pound Lane had 62 catches for 1,018 yards and six touchdowns this past season.
- CB-Chris Lyles (Mississippi College): Lyles stands 6-2, rare height for a corner. That trait had to attract the Colts as they see if Lyles can make the jump from lower level college football.
- OG-Christopher Muller (Rutgers): After 49 career starts at Rutgers, Mueller is one of two interior offensive linemen coming to the Colts in the undrafted free agent class.
- WR-JoJo Natson (Akron): The 5-7, 159-pound Natson is known for his elusiveness in the open field as a receiver and return specialist. Natson joins his college teammate Jerome Lane as an undrafted wideout coming to the Colts.
- CB-Reggie Porter (Utah): Porter started 22 games in three seasons at Utah. A season-ending injury in 2014 kept Porter off the field for that entire season.
- RB-Brandon Radcliff (Louisville): After starting for three years at Louisville, Radcliff now makes the drive up I-65 to join the Colts. Radcliff had 903 rushing yards on 6.5 yards per carry in 2016.
- P-Rigoberto Sanchez (Hawaii): Sanchez did a little bit of everything in the kicking game during his time at Hawaii. Sanchez was a prefect 13-for-13 on field goals this past year, and averaged 44.6 yards per punt.
- OLB-Garrett Sickels (Penn State): Despite leaving school early and receiving an invite to the NFL Combine, Sickels went undrafted. Sickels had 20.5 tackles for loss and 11.0 sacks in 39 career games (24 starts).
- DE-Jhaustin Thomas (Iowa State): In moving to the interior of Iowa State's defensive line this past year, Thomas had 9.5 tackles for loss and earned a spot on the All-Big 12 Second Team. Thomas is 6-5 and 292 pounds.
- OT-Jerry Ugokwe (William & Mary): The Nigeria native did not play football until his junior year of high school. But the former walk-on ended up starting 42 straight games at William & Mary. Ugokwe stands 6-7 and 321 pounds.
- QB-Phillip Walker (Temple): The 5-11 Walker threw for 3,295 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2016. Walker is Temple's all-time leader in completions, passing yards and touchdown passes and was a four-year starter for the Owls.
