INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Colts are proud to announce the seventh "Anthem Angel" of the 2011-2012 season: Klay South.
Klay, nominated by Josh Bleill, has been an inspiration to countless veterans across the country.
In 2007, Veterans of Valor (veteransofvalor.org) was launched from the heart and experiences of Sgt. Klay South, USMC (Ret.) who was critically wounded in Fallujah, Iraq in 2004. Klay South has endured over 40 procedures and surgeries after an AK-47 round ripped through the right side of his mouth and face, while another round went through his foot.
Through of his recovery, Klay learned how mentally and physically straining it is being a combat-wounded soldier. Veterans of Valor was started to assist combat wounded veterans by providing unique items, services, and programs to meet their physical, mental and emotional needs throughout the healing process.
Because of Klay's amazing strength and determination to help others, Veterans of Valor has been able to assist hundreds of severely wounded service members and their families. Klay's willingness to share his personal experiences and struggles has and will continue to have such a positive impact on everyone he comes in contact with. Congratulations to our Anthem Angel, Klay South of Indianapolis, IN.
In honor of Klay's outstanding service, he received four (4) VIP Club Seat Tickets the Colts vs. Titans game, a feature story with his photo in the Colts gameday magazine (the Scout), as well as on-field recognition at the game.
"Anthem Angels…Honoring Everyday Heroes" was established by the Indianapolis Colts and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield to pay tribute to Hoosier "First Respondents" who have gone above the call of duty in human-service related professions.
