DE-JERRY HUGHES (on his thoughts on being drafted) [

DE-JERRY HUGHES (on how he'd describe his game and what he thinks playing with DE-Dwight Freeney and DE-Robert Mathis will do for him) Friday, April 23, 2010
"My game is very fast, very tenacious. When I get out there on the field, I just play at one speed and that's fast. To be with those guys, I have to sit and learn from them. Those are the best two defensive ends in the NFL. I have a great opportunity to sit with them and learn from them."
DE-JERRY HUGHES (on playing running back through high school and if he ever imagined that he would be drafted as a defensive end) Friday, April 23, 2010
"As a kid, I never would have imagined myself playing defensive end. I always grew up playing the running back spot, but once I made that transition in college to playing defensive end that's really something I pushed myself towards."
DE-JERRY HUGHES (on if he knew he'd be moved to defensive end in college) Friday, April 23, 2010

DE-JERRY HUGHES (on how he felt about being moved to defensive end) Friday, April 23, 2010
"I saw it as a new challenge. What they told me was that I was going to be recruited as an athlete because I was going to be fit and molded into whatever they wanted me to. So, I saw that as a new challenge. Whatever they saw was best fitting for me to go out there and play, I was going to go out there, play that position and do it to the best of my ability."
DE-JERRY HUGHES (on his first impression of the Colts) Friday, April 23, 2010

"It was a lot of excitement just sitting there with family and friends, watching how everything was unfolding and then got that phone call from the 317 area code, got on the phone with the GM and the owner, and they told me I'm going to be a Colt. I just had a huge smile come to my face. I was excited and just overwhelmed with a lot of emotions."
DE-JERRY HUGHES (on if he knew where the 317 area code was) Friday, April 23, 2010

DE-JERRY HUGHES (on a player he imitated growing up) Friday, April 23, 2010
"Dwight Freeney. I like the way he plays defensive end. He and I are kind of similar. Whenever he was on television, Sunday nights, Sunday afternoons, I would always tune in to see what he does out there to be successful. That is somebody that I try to kind of model myself after."
DE-JERRY HUGHES (on if he can spin like DE-Dwight Freeney) Friday, April 23, 2010
"I have to work on that spin. He has a pretty nasty spin right there. That's something that I have to work on. It might take me awhile, but that's something I plan on adding to my repertoire."
DE-JERRY HUGHES (on if he watched Super Bowl XLIV and who he rooted for) Friday, April 23, 2010
"I was rooting for the Colts. I'm a huge Dwight Freeney fan. When they said he was going to be playing, and he went out there and performed the way that he did, I was excited. I was upset that you all lost, but at the same time excited that he was out there playing. It was a great game."
DE-JERRY HUGHES (on how he compares to DE-Dwight Freeney and what he wants to be able to do like him) Friday, April 23, 2010
"Just the way that he uses his speed, and the way he uses it to be successful by getting that offensive tackle off-guard and then just adding in different power rushing moves. Also, that deadly spin that he has. Just things like that. I play fast just like him."

"I wanted to get my degree. I was only a couple hours short of that, so that's something I was in pursuit of, and also to help the team get a conference title. When I came in my freshman year they had just came off the conference title in 2005 and just seeing all the guy's faces and how excited they were, that was something I really wanted to be a part of."
DE-JERRY HUGHES (on playing at TCU) Friday, April 23, 2010
"I have to say that playing at TCU, they really taught me what defense was all about. Coming in fresh to the defensive side of the world, I really wasn't familiar with how defense works and operates. I kind of take that from them and Coach Patterson. He also taught me how to play tough. It's always been in my heart because I love the game, but I have to say that he kind of brought that out of there."
