HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On their last time out, did you think they were settling for a field goal there? Would they have taken it down?) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"I didn't care. I was going to make sure that they couldn't. Make them snap the ball. They were in field goal range. So we wanted to try to make them snap the ball as many times as they possibly could. Wasn't going to let them just sit there and take it down. So used a time out in that situation."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (How do you react to the failed 3rd and 1's tonight?) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"Obviously I don't think that killed us. It was at the start of the game when we had a couple of them that didn't go our way. I think we were 1-4 early. But then we picked it up and converted a couple. It was just one of those games where it's a tight game and everything gets looked at closely because it could have gone either way. You have to give credit to them. They did a heck of a job. Our guys fought hard all year long. I think they overcame a lot of things along the stretch. Great effort, just ran out of time."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (on electing to go for the field goal with 4:30 to go in the game) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"In that situation we take the points. Where we were located we knew we were in a situation where we had a chance to get it back. That was our thought process. And it happened that way. We did get it back. We obviously had a chance to go down and we ended up getting a field goal. But obviously it wasn't enough."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (on special teams and that last return by the Jets) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"You go through in your mind a couple of things. Do you kick it deep? Do you try to mortar kick it? You go through a number of things. Mortar kick probably gives it to them a little bit too close. And then we didn't do a good enough job in terms of the coverage team didn't get him down and got out too far. Didn't give them a whole lot of field that they had to cover in order to get into field goal range."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (on the team's road to this point) Saturday, January 8, 2010
"I think our guys fought hard. Our standings out here were high. We got into the playoffs, but we have always believed that our goal is to win championships here. We are disappointed that we didn't win it and we didn't move forward, regardless of the circumstances. I thank our guys for what they were able to do-overcoming some tough situations throughout the season. We had an opportunity here tonight, but you have to give credit to them [Jets]. They [Jets] did a nice job, ran the ball well on us the second half, and really controlled the clock on us."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (on defense's effort) Saturday, January 8, 2010
"I am proud of how all our guys played. They certainly played well. We had some young guys in there playing a lot of football this year and hopefully bode well for us just in terms of somewhere down the road. But, it's always going to be tough to swallow when you lose a tough game, a tight game, that you had the opportunity to win. So I think our guys will lick our wounds a get over it, move forward, but it will take us a little while."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (on this loss) Saturday, January 8, 2010
"Yeah, anytime you have a game of this magnitude, your guys play extremely well, it's a tight game and you expect it to go right down to the wire-its disappointing to lose that kind of ball game, so it does indeed make it difficult. But, I am proud of they way our guys played."
QB-PEYTON MANNING (on not having the ball in his hands at the end of the game) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"We were certainly trying to pick up that first down at the end. Thought that would certainly make them use some of their timeouts and you would love to be able to run the clock down as much as possible and kick it with not much time left if possible. We felt we were in range and had two shots on second down and third down to pick up that first down and we didn't pick it up and had to settle for the field goal and of course gave them enough time to win it at the end."
QB-PEYTON MANNING (on having success on third and long in the second half) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"Sometimes we had some third and seven-plus and they brought seven defensive backs. They had 34 (Marquice) Cole at defensive end. That is 100% pass coverage. That is a lot of defensive backs. They were not really thinking we were going to run it. We were able to pick those up."
QB-PEYTON MANNING (on the difficulty in getting the ball to Reggie Wayne) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"Pierre (Garcon) made a big play on his touchdown. Blair (White) had a couple of nice catches. Reggie Wayne has had an unbelievable year. There is no question he was a big focus of their defense. It was just a matter of kind of throwing it to the guy that was open on each progression and knowing what the coverage was."
QB-PEYTON MANNING (on if the season was successful given all the injuries) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"It is certainly disappointing tonight. That is really all you think about at this point. I think at some point you will sit back and reflect on the entire season. Disappointing in the way that we lost the game tonight. Anytime you lose on a last second field goal in a playoff game it certainly stinks."
QB-PEYTON MANNING (on what Rex Ryan said to him after the game) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"I think he said 'good game.' There were a lot of players up there at the same time. They won the game and will have a good chance next week against whoever they play."
QB-PEYTON MANNING (on getting the ball back with 2:36 to go) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"You certainly try to get a touchdown. You are trying to work some clock too. We hit a big play to (Jacob) Tamme to start. We hit the drag route to Tamme. Hit a hook route to Blair (White) to get a first down. I thought we had a good drive there. Got there to around the 32 (yard line) or whatever and they blitzed everybody and thought we had two good shots. Had a screen that we were really, really close to popping and possibly could have scored and then had the sprint out to get away from the blitz and just weren't able to make the plays. Just disappointing and ended up giving them more time to have a shot at the end. Of course they had good field position after the return."
QB-PEYTON MANNING (on the struggles on short third downs) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"Certainly we would have liked to score more points than them. I thought we had a good plan and thought we actually played the plan pretty well and executed it pretty well. Gave them a little too much time. I am not going to go back and look at each series and each third and one that we didn't convert. We still played well enough to win at the end."
QB-PEYTON MANNING (on next season) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"It is hard to speak on that. Certainly this year is a different year. I truly appreciate the effort of a number of guys, some of the veteran players that played hurt all year, some guys that didn't let on how injured they are, how hurt they are, how much pain they played with. A number of guys, (Jeff) Saturday, Charlie Johnson, Reggie (Wayne), (Jacob) Tamme and then the guys like Dominic Rhodes, Blair White, Jacob Tamme, kind of new guys for this year's team. I truly appreciate their efforts and doing their job, giving our team a chance. It would have been fun to have gotten on a little run here. There is really a different feel here. We would have been the underdog in every game we would have played. I thought we were the underdog tonight. We would have been an underdog going into to Pittsburgh. That is certainly a different feeling. Every year we are in the playoffs. We are always kind of the favorite to win and expected to win, but this could have been a fun little run. It has been a fun little run these last few weeks, we felt like they have all been playoff games. This is the best team we have played in some time. Certainly had a chance, just came up short."
QB-PEYTON MANNING (on the offensive struggles early in the game) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"I can't really speak to one thing. Probably a combination of both. They have good players, a good defense. Probably some things we could have done a little bit better. Probably a combination of both and that is a good defense, don't think they are not."
QB-PEYTON MANNING (on the growth of Jacob Tamme and Blair White this season) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"I don't know how you can give them anymore experience than they gained this year. Like you said, playing in some critical situations, critical games against some really good defenses. There is no question those guys will be better players for it. Like I said our whole team, and me as the quarterback, I certainly appreciate their efforts and how hard they have worked during the course of the week getting ready to play. I truly appreciate it."
RB-JOSEPH ADDAI (on if he thought when K-Adam Vinatieri made the field goal with less than a minute remaining that the Colts were going to win) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"Anytime Adam is kicking, you feel you have a great chance at winning. They had enough time on the clock to get some points."
RB-JOSEPH ADDAI (on the feeling in the locker room after the game) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"We don't like this taste in our mouth. I know the only thing to do, and it's kind of hard to do this, but move forward from this."
RB-JOSEPH ADDAI (on the Jets controlling the ball in the second half) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"Anytime you keep our offense off the field, it kind of hurts us. They did a great job at running the ball and doing some things to keep us off the field. It was kind of hard to watch them on the field and doing some things and us just sitting on the sidelines."
RB-JOSEPH ADDAI (on what was the feeling on the sidelines after K-Adam Vinatieri's field goal) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"We felt good. That was a boost of energy that we needed. They did a great job of going out there and putting up some points and getting that win."
RB-JOSEPH ADDAI (on the game) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"The playoffs are always going to be tough. We fought hard, but they got the win. They had a good game plan coming into the game, and they were able to execute. They got the 'W'."
RB-JOSEPH ADDAI (on if it is a consolation to just make the playoffs with all the injuries the team had this season) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"We're proud that we got here, but at the same time, the season starts over when you get into the playoffs. We felt like we had a good chance."
WR-PIERRE GARCON (on the loss to the Jets) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"It's a tough way to go down, especially at home, but they played well today and they came out on top."
WR-PIERRE GARCON (on the Colts last offensive possession) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"The last possession was tough. They played good defense. They possessed the ball a lot in the second half, and were running the ball well, they executed better than we did."
WR-PIERRE GARCON (on the 2010 season) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"It was a great year, pretty unusual, but it's football. Football is kind of like life, it throws things at you, and you just got to deal with it and keep moving."
WR-PIERRE GARCON (on the way the game ended) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"That's how it is. You never know what few parts of the game are going to win the game for you. We needed special teams the most and they played well for us all year, so we can't blame it on them."
WR-PIERRE GARCON (on the offensive opportunities) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"It just wasn't enough. We should've scored more points. We should've had more plays, but they played good defense, and they get paid too."
LT-CHARLIE JOHNSON (on the loss to the Jets) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"Any way you lose it's going to suck, especially this time of year. So it doesn't matter if it was a big mistake, or if they stopped us, or we stopped us it doesn't really matter right now."
LT-CHARLIE JOHNSON (on the thought that the Colts aspire for a Super Bowl every year) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"I think it's bogus. I think there are some teams in the league that would love to have the success that we've had regardless of going to Super Bowls or not. Winning so many games over the years, winning twelve games however many years in a row, going to the playoffs nine straight years, so there's a ton of teams that would take that and be happy with it."
LT-CHARLIE JOHNSON (on if making the playoffs is a consolation) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"It's not. Once you get here, you expect to win games, and go to the Super Bowl. It doesn't matter how we got here, we got here, and we fully expected to go out and win games, and try to get to the championship. We came up short."
LT-CHARLIE JOHNSON (on tonight's execution) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"We kind of feel like, as an offense, we left plays out there and you don't want to come off the field thinking that. Thinking that if we would've done this, or that, you don't want to look at that. So, it's just a bad spot to be in."
LT-CHARLIE JOHNSON (on the way the game ended) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"It doesn't feel good knowing that you think you went down, we didn't get a touchdown, just got a field goal, thinking that we got the win. You feel helpless. You feel like there's nothing really you can do."
LT-CHARLIE JOHNSON (on the way the season went) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"It was a weird, very weird, probably one of the weirdest I have been a part of. With all that being said, I couldn't be more proud of this team. Just the way that we fought, all year, not just the last four games, but all year. Going through rough spots, and people saying negative things about us, and then putting it all behind us, and keep playing and going ahead. I can't be more proud to be part of this team."
RB-DOMINIC RHODES (on the Colts trusting him in crucial situations) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"That's kind of how it has been this whole time here with the Colts. They usually try to get me the ball, and they want me to make a big play. I just try to deliver whenever it is time. That was another time, the line blocked great, and I was able to make a play. I was just having a good time out there. That's how I try to treat the game. It was a big game for us. We didn't pull it out this time and it's kind of disheartening, I was really looking forward to going to Pittsburgh and playing. I knew we were. Once again, Peyton put us in position to win. AV made a great kick. We just didn't pull it out in the win."
RB-DOMINIC RHODES (on if he thinks he'll be on the team next year) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"I hope so. I would love to be back here playing ball again because I know what we have here. It's always fun to be in position to play in these types of games. It means a lot to me to be here, and hopefully I'll be back."
LB-GARY BRACKETT (on the final drive by the Jets) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"We had plenty of opportunities. We just couldn't make that play on the final drive to keep those guys out of field goal range. They did a good job moving the ball, and getting in a good place to make that field goal."
LB-GARY BRACKETT (on getting off the field on third downs) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"It was tough. They had some good plays dialed up, and they were competing. They won their fair share of third downs and I think that cost us."
LB-GARY BRACKETT (on the Jets' off-season acquisition LaDainian Tomlinson) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"He did a good job. He's a veteran player, hall of fame back. He's really playing at a high level. He did a good job today as far as getting some positive yards.
LB-GARY BRACKETT (on the Jets' run offense in the second half) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"I think they did. We knew they were going to come in here and run the ball. We just couldn't stop the consistently and I think that's what hurt us."
LB-GARY BRACKETT (on the season and how Brackett feels now) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"I mean you feel the same way you feel any year if you don't win the Super Bowl it's just back to the drawing board. A lot's to be said about this season and how we fought. So I'm definitely proud of the guys, but like I said, you still feel the same way. And tomorrow we'll see everyone later and then you start working on the off-season."
LB-GARY BRACKETT (on if this takes some time) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"I think so, just because it's so fresh right now. One week you're practicing every day, and next week everything stops. So it definitely takes a little bit of adjustment"
DB-ANTOINE BETHEA (on the loss to the Jets) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"That's how it's going to be in the playoffs. Two good teams, going at it, fighting, it's a 60 minute game. It was unfortunate we came out on the side we didn't want to."
DB-ANTOINE BETHEA (on the Jets long drive in the second half) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"You never want to have those long drives. That's when the offense is able to get into the flow of the game. They guys that were out there on the field, you know guys get a little winded. You never want to be out there for an extended amount of time. You want to get off on third downs and that drive we weren't able to do that. So, it was tough, but we were still in there, still fighting, and we had a chance at the end."
DB-ANTOINE BETHEA (on if he felt good after the offense kicked a field goal with under a minute left) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"Most definitely. We didn't go out on the field doubting ourselves. We felt as though, under a minute, we can make some plays, and possible keep them out of field goal range. Give them credit, they made plays, and were able to get in field goal range."
DB-ANTOINE BETHEA (on the long kick return after the field goal with under a minute left) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"That's obvious it hurt. They were able to get real good field position off the jump. We would rather have had them have to drive the field 80 yards, but it is what it is. They got a good return, our defense was out there, and our job is to stop them."
DB-ANTOINE BETHEA (on if he is proud of what they did this year) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"We wanted to get to the Super Bowl. Regardless of what we went through, we wanted to get to the Super Bowl. Obviously we fought a lot. Division champs, that's good to smile about, so there are some things we can build on for next year, but we fell short, and we're not happy about that."
DB-ANTOINE BETHEA (on the Jets QB Mark Sanchez and his second half performance) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"I just think there receivers made some plays for him. He's a mobile quarterback so he was able to move in the pocket a little bit, and get some throws to his receivers and they made some catches, that's what happened."
DB-ANTOINE BETHEA (on the Colts contending next season) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"Yeah, of course, I think this organization does a good job, just with the personnel and things of that nature. So, we get some guys back, and we'll see what happens."
DE-ROBERT MATHIS (on the second half) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"They made some good adjustments. The first two drives, they went down and scored on us. We just had to tighten up. We were able to do that near the end. They just edged us out."
DE-ROBERT MATHIS (on if he felt good when K-Adam Vinatieri made the field goal to give the Colts the lead with under one minute to go) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"I felt great. He's the Iceman. That's what he does, and he does it well. We just had to stop them, and we weren't able to get that stop at the end."
DE-ROBERT MATHIS (on if the defense felt they did enough on third downs) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"No because they came out and scored on two drives. When they score, the job is not done."
DE-ROBERT MATHIS (on if it is a consolation to make the playoffs with all the injuries the team had this season) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"We had to fight to get into the playoffs, and the ultimate goal was to take it all the way. We weren't able to do that. As men and professionals, you just have to regroup and go back to work."
DE-ROBERT MATHIS (on if he's even been a part of a team that has gone through what this team has gone through) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"Over the years we've had the luxury of starting fast and having a pretty healthy team, but this year it was a different beast. We made the playoffs and got some achievement, but not what we are used to. You have to give them all the credit, they won the game, we lost the game."
DT-DAN MUIR (on the game) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"You have to give them all the credit. They came out and fought hard and it came down to the last second and they made the plays they needed to make to win."
DT-DAN MUIR (on the last defensive possession) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"(QB-Mark) Sanchez made a great throw. WR-Braylon (Edwards) was able to come up with a great reception. It hurts, but it's reality. They made the plays."
DT-DAN MUIR (on the team had much bigger goals than just making the playoffs) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"Of course. The goal was to get to the Super Bowl and win it. Unfortunately, we weren't able to do that. It's going to leave a bitter taste in everybody's mouth. It's going to be a long offseason."
DT-DAN MUIR (on what this team was able to do this season despite all the injuries) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"Injuries are not an excuse. We hold ourselves to a high standard here."
K-ADAM VINATIERI (on leaving some time left on the clock) Saturday, January 8, 2011
"50 seconds left on the clock still, it's a lot of time for a good team to move the ball down into field goal range. Unfortunately, we let them out of their side with a good return. It was one of those things where you go from super, super high to super, super low. Now you have to sit there and swallow that pill for a long time."
