Colts Fans Encouraged to Donate Cell Phones before August 15 Game
INDIANAPOLIS – This Sunday, August 15, the Colts will team up with the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV) to host a cell phone collection prior to the Colts vs. 49ers game. From 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., volunteers from ICADV will be collecting new and gently used cell phones for victims of domestic violence. Donations will be collected at the Colts Community Collection Stations, presented by Toyota, located outside each Lucas Oil Stadium Gate. Cash donations will also be accepted to support the purchase of blankets for ICADV's "Claire's Comfort for Kids" program.
The Colts and ICADV are excited to launch the football season with this collection and encourage fans to participate in the event. The 2010 Colts Gameday Collections program will continue to run throughout the season as a different collection is held to support a charitable cause prior to each home game. Future collections include Coats for Kids, Finish Line's Soles4Souls Shoe Collection, Meijer SACKing Hunger Food Drive and WISH-Tree Toy Drive. About Claire's Comfort for Kids
Claire's Comfort for Kids was created by Claire Helmen, a 12-year-old student at Saint Thomas Aquinas School in Indianapolis. Having observed her mother's work with victims of domestic violence, Claire wanted to find a way to help children who are often victims of trauma. Facilitated by ICADV, Claire's Comfort for Kids provides blankets to all IMPD patrol officers, who in turn offer them to children involved in traumatic situations such as domestic abuse, automobile accidents, fires, separation from parents, etc. For more information about Claire's Comfort for Kids, visit www.violenceresource.org.
