Colts DB Kelvin Hayden Blog-December 25
First of all, I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. The last few years we have been off on Christmas Day, but this year it's a little different for us because it falls on a Friday, and we have practice. The good thing is Coach Caldwell is cutting the day a little short so everyone can spend some time with their families, and we definitely appreciate that. Looking back, I remember one Christmas, I think I was six or seven years old, and my dad helped me put together a train track set. It was almost the size of our entire living room. That's what I had asked Santa for, and I was so excited, just an unexplainable feeling that Santa actually brought me what I had wanted, and then my dad was there to help me put it together and play with it the whole time. That was a memorable one for me.
On the field, we have a couple of important weeks ahead of us. I think Coach Caldwell has done a good job this week of making sure everyone stays focused, that we prepare this week no differently than any other. Even though we have clinched homefield for the playoffs, we still have a lot to work on and improve on. And personally, the next two games are important for me because after missing a few, it will give me a chance to continue to get my comfort level back and get my timing down.
There is a lot of talk about going for a 16-0 record, but the guys in the locker room have one goal in mind, and that is to do what it takes to be 3-0 in the post-season. As players, we are built for competition, for winning every time we go out, and that won't change. But while going undefeated in the regular season would be great, it only matters if we go undefeated in the post-season. That's what our minds are focused on, getting better every week to reach our main goal, and that's why every practice and game is so important as we get closer.
