INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Colts are proud to announce Kellee Hedges as the seventh honoree of the 2017 Colts Anthem Angels program, presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Hedges, a local resident of Mishawaka, IN, will be recognized at the Colts home game this Thursday, December 14, 2017.
Kellee Hedges' care for her patients extends well beyond the operating room. Hedges is a nurse practitioner at The Centre, P.C. in South Bend, IN – a practice that specializes in plastic and reconstructive surgery. She works with many breast reconstruction patients that are battling and recovering from breast cancer.
Hedges has devoted much of her time to breast reconstruction research. She has published one article and is currently involved in a clinical trial working alongside organizations such as MD Anderson, Vanderbilt, Stanford, and the Mayo Clinic. Hedges is also actively involved in fundraising for the American Cancer Society. She had served as a team captain for past five years and led her team to become a top corporate fundraiser.
Hedges cares deeply about each of the patients she works with at The Centre, P.C.
"It's what I would want somebody to do for me," said Hedges, "I want to make sure that patients have a good experience when they're having a rough time in their lives."
Many patients have written cards to express their gratitude for the above and beyond care they have received from Hedges. One patient, a year out from surgery and chemotherapy, wrote a letter thanking Hedges for being there for her on the bad days, and for simply sitting down and listening to her as needed. Hedges has this letter framed in her office in addition to the cards she has received as a daily reminder of the importance of what she does.
For her dedication and compassion to both her patients and research of breast reconstruction, we want to congratulate Kellee Hedges as this week's Anthem Angel.
Hedges will receive four (4) VIP Club Seat Tickets to the Colts game, a feature story with her photo in the Colts gameday magazine (the Scout) and on www.colts.com, as well as on-field recognition at the game.
Nominations are currently being accepted for upcoming 2017 home games. For more information about Anthem Angels, presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, please visit: www.colts.com/anthemangels.
