PHILADELPHIA — Adam Vinatieri made a little history at Lincoln Financial Field today.
By knocking in his third field goal in today’s Week 3 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, Vinatieri tied Morten Andersen for the most made field goals in NFL history. The kick for Vinatieri was the 565th converted field goal of his illustrious career.
The record-tying kick, a 28-yarder, came with 14:20 left in the fourth quarter, which gave the Colts a 16-13 lead.
With one more made field goal, Vinatieri will obviously break the all-time NFL record — which is just the first of two all-time marks he’s expected to own by season’s end.
Vinatieri entered today’s game needing 43 points to tie Andersen (2,544) for the most points scored in NFL history. He could break that record by midseason.
