It is more important than ever to join together to help those in need in our community. Below are ways that local organizations in the Indianapolis area are working to support those impacted by COVID-19.
Gleaners Food Bank
Gleaners provides food assistance to more than 260,000 people in central and southeast Indiana and is currently seeing a significant increase in the amount of neighbors seeking help through their modified drive-thru distributions due to COVID-19. The weekly need is likely to increase.
Indianapolis Public Schools
While all Indianapolis Public Schools will remain closed through April 5, the IPS Food Service team will continue to distribute pre-packaged meals from the parking lots at seven IPS schools. Meals will be distributed between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday-Friday from the seven parking lots. Meal service is open to all students age 18 and younger, including non-IPS students.
The IPS food bus, the Bus Stop Café, will offer meal service at two apartment complexes Monday-Friday through April 3.
Providing food to homebound seniors and families during this epidemic is critical for our community. Second Helpings is committed to providing this essential service and meeting the need as best they can. By developing satellite kitchens, Second Helpings can expand the number of people it serves quickly and keep more people in the restaurant industry working.

The virus we are living through is very serious, but more so is the severely declining availability of blood.
Wheeler Mission helps the homeless in Indiana. Wheeler is a non-denominational, Christian, social services organization, which provides critically needed goods and services to the homeless, poor, and needy of central Indiana without regard to race, color, sexual orientation, creed, national origin, or religion.
Wheeler Mission shelters hundreds of men, women and children throughout each facility and are going through critical supplies very quickly. Wheeler Mission shelters are in need of food donations for sack lunches and volunteers for sack lunch assembly.
