Colts to Be Featured on NFL Network Wednesday Night
INDIANAPOLIS – Peyton Manning could hardly believe his ears.
But Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison indeed said what he said – and it helped the Colts win the Super Bowl last season.
Exactly what Harrison said during the 2006 AFC Championship Game is part of the newest episode of America’s Game: The Super Bowl Champions, a series in which the 2006 Colts will be profiled on Wednesday at 9 p.m. on the NFL Network.
The story of the 2006 Colts is told from the perspective of Colts Head Coach Tony Dungy, Manning – the Colts’ seven-time Pro Bowl quarterback – and Colts center Jeff Saturday.
The show is narrated by Emmy Award-winning actor Donald Sutherland.
America’s Game tells the stories behind the story of all 41 Super Bowl champions. Each episode is a 60-minute documentary featuring key members of the winning team telling behind-the-scenes accounts from their championship season.
One of the stories in the 2006 Colts episode of America’s Game recounts how with the Colts on the New England Patriots’ 11-yard line late in the AFC Championship Game, Manning asked wide receiver Reggie Wayne if he could get open on a slant-and-go route.
“Marvin (Harrison) of all people says, ‘I think we should run it,’’’ Manning recalled. “Everybody was dumbfounded.”
Said Saturday, “Marvin Harrison wants the ball every play he can get it. So for him to say that is amazing.”
Added Manning, “To the offensive line, this is music to their ears. They say, ‘Yeah Marvin, let’s run it.’ So I say, ‘Yes, this is a good idea, let’s run it and see what happens.’”
Three consecutive runs culminated with a Joseph Addai three-yard touchdown, the winning points in a 38-34 victory that sent the Colts to their first Super Bowl in 36 seasons.
