Colts DB Antoine Bethea Blog-November 20

Last week was a great win for us, being that it was a team win and how we got it done, a full 60 minutes. Coach Caldwell always says it’s going to be a 60-minute fight, and just from last year, how we came back in Houston, rallying back, scrapping, playing hard until the final whistle, we’ve been there before. And I think it’s important for our young guys to see that it’s possible, that you’re not out of it, and how you can get it done. There wasn’t any bickering. We were hanging in there with one another. It brings the whole team together knowing that there’s no quit in us. We were behind, but we could feel it in the locker room and on the sidelines that we still had a chance to come back and win the game.

Defensively, we didn’t really play like we wanted to in the first half, giving up some big plays, but coming out in the second half we made some plays when we needed to. The offense started clicking as well, and we just hung in there, fought as a unit and as a team. Obviously everybody is saying it was a great game, a great comeback, but we also look at it as something we can build on. The last three weeks, all three phases have come together, offensively, defensively, special teams, to pull out some close games. There hasn’t been anybody feeling left out or they haven’t done their part. Everyone has contributed by putting their hard work in and best foot forward. I think it’s going to make the team a lot stronger coming to the end of November and going into December. And as Coach Caldwell says, we have 24 hours to celebrate the win, so we moved on from that early in the week. It’s been a good week of preparation, and now we’re focused on Baltimore, which is a really good team.

It’s special for me going back to Baltimore because it’s close to Howard—where I went to college—and not too far away from my hometown of Newport News, Virginia. A lot of the people that you grew up with and went to school with really don’t get a chance to see an NFL game in person, period, much less see one of their past teammates or friends playing. For my family and friends to be able to come see me in person is very special, and I don’t mind getting the extra tickets for them so they can enjoy the moment as well. Like any other game, I want to perform well, but I really want to play well in front of my family and friends.
