The latter is what Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne did Sunday. To the surprise of teammates and media gathered, Wayne pulled into the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology riding in the front seat of a giant construction truck.

“As you can see,” Wayne said motioning towards the truck, “we’re under construction for a Super Bowl here and we have the blueprints to make this thing successful and we’re going to do a real good job and come here ready to go to work.”

Wearing a yellow hard hat and a bright orange reflector vest, Wayne said he expects the Colts to have a great time in training camp and “make this thing work.”

With several new coaches and wide receivers, Wayne said there’s some extra work to do this year.

“There’s going to be a lot asked of me but I’m up for the job. I feel like there’s no pressure. I’m going to continue to do the same things I’ve been doing. Nothing is going to change and it’s going to be fun. It’s going to be exciting. Like I said in minicamp, I really feel like our receivers are going to share something special. I really do believe that.”

Wayne said he was not ready to get down to business until he saw a sign on the highway that let him know Terre Haute, home of the Colts’ training camp site, was about 60 miles away.

“Then you start to get your mind together. It’s kind of hard after vacation all of a sudden to say, ‘I’m ready to go to work.’ I don’t know anybody that’s on a vacation that would rather go to work. But when I’m on my way out here, I get my mind right.”

Wayne fielded questions from reporters in character as a construction worker. He talked about his visions for the season and why the dump truck was his vehicle of choice.

“This was my whole idea for camp this year,” he said. “I really feel like we’re going to really have to get dirty. We’re going to have to really get into it. I feel like we have to make the blueprint and once the blueprint is made, we already know the site. The site is in Miami (the location of the 2010 Super Bowl). I know that place better than a lot of people. We feel like, let’s get the site together and as long as we have the blueprint, the rest is history.”
