Ugoh, Johnson Likely to Play Sunday, Dungy Says
INDIANAPOLIS – Tony Dungy likes what he sees at offensive tackle.

That’s because rookie Tony Ugoh practiced this week, and second-year veteran Charlie Johnson did, too.

Ugoh and Johnson, each of whom have been injured during the last month, each practiced the last two days in preparation for Sunday’s game against Jacksonville, and Dungy – the Colts’ Head Coach – said Friday each likely will play Sunday.

“Charlie Johnson did well; Tony Ugoh did well,” Dungy said as the AFC South-leading Colts (9-2) prepared to play the second-place Jacksonville Jaguars (8-3) at the RCA Dome Sunday at 1 p.m.

“I think at this point both of those guys are ready to play.”

Ugoh, the Colts’ second-round selection in the 2007 NFL Draft, started the first six games of the season at left tackle and has missed the last five with a neck injury. He practiced throughout the week and was not listed on the team’s injury report.

“That will be good, to get him going,” Dungy said. “He was playing very well before he got hurt. Hopefully, he’ll regain that form as we come down the stretch.

“Definitely, the more pieces you can get back the better off you are. That’s a big one to start.”

Johnson, who has started the last five games at left tackle, missed practice Wednesday with a hamstring injury, but practiced Thursday and Friday.

Ryan Diem, who started the first 10 games of the season at right tackle, missed practice this week with a knee injury. He also missed the Colts’ last game, Thanksgiving Night against the Atlanta Falcons.

“I think we’re in good shape,” Dungy said. “We’ve got at this point Charlie and Tony playing and Michael Toudouze – who has played very well when he has played – as the third guy. Hopefully, Ryan can play. If he can, even if he’s just the fourth guy, we’ll be in good shape.”

Johnson is the Colts’ top backup at both tackle positions, and started for Diem one game last season. He also played extensively in the Super Bowl last season.

Also on Friday, the Colts released their third injury report of the week, with running back Joseph Addai (team decision), Diem (knee), offensive tackle Dan Federkeil (concussion), wide receiver Marvin Harrison (knee) and cornerback Tim Jennings listed as not participating in practice.

Players listed on the injury report who practiced Friday:

Linebacker Gary Brackett (illness), Johnson, linebacker Freddy Keiaho (illness), safety Bob Sanders (team decision) and tight end Ben Utecht (groin).

Federkeil has been ruled out for Sunday, while Diem, Harrison and Jennings are listed as questionable. Brackett, Johnson, Keiaho, Sanders and Utecht are all listed as probable.

The Colts on Thursday placed rookie cornerback Dante Hughes on injured reserve with a shoulder injury and signed cornerback Keiwan Ratliff, who spent three games this season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Buccaneers, like the Colts, employ the so-called “Tampa 2” or “Dungy 2” defense, and Dungy said Ratliff’s familiarity with the scheme should help his transition.

“He was in Tampa for three weeks,” Dungy said. “A lot of the background terminology, the baseline you need, he probably has gotten in the last three weeks. That’s what this week has been about. I think next week we’ll have a chance to work him in.”
