Colts Safety Answers Questions About New England, Baltimore
In his fourth year with the Indianapolis Colts, safety Melvin Bullitt quickly is becoming a mainstay of the team’s defensive unit. In addition to being elected one of the team’s special teams captains by his peers, Bullitt also is the Colts’ fifth-leading tackler with 42 through nine games. Last Sunday, Bullitt came up with one of the biggest plays of his young career after recording a fourth-down stop against New England. This week, Bullitt and the Colts are preparing for a tough test on the road against the Baltimore Ravens. On Wednesday, Bullitt spoke with reporters about last week’s victory and this week’s challenge.

Q: What is this week’s test against Baltimore going to be like?
Bullitt: “The main focus is still going to be stopping the run, that’s what they like to do. They have been throwing a lot, but if we stop the run and get them to keep throwing then I think that will play more in our favor with our edge rushers, and then hopefully let us do some good things in the secondary.”

Q: Does a game like last week’s victory over New England give a team momentum?
Bullitt: “It does. But we have to look at the next game. We have to put it behind us. Baltimore is coming up and it’s an away game, so it’s a big game for us. We’re (both) fighting to get into the playoffs, so we know it’s going to be a huge game.”

Q: Is it easy to put a game like that behind you?
Bullitt: “In the situation we are in, yes, we control our own destiny. We can’t sit and relax on that game. Everyone is focused and looking forward to going to Baltimore.”

Q: How many times in the last couple of days have you seen the replay of you tackling Patriots running back Kelvin Faulk on 4th-and-2?Bullitt: “Every time you flip on ESPN or something it’s on. But I try and not to let that get to me, just do what I’m supposed to do. Come in here and let that go.”

Q: How many phone calls and text messages did you receive from friends and families?
Bullitt: “A bit more than usual, but that comes with the territory, I guess.”

Q: Do you feel any additional pressure being 9-0 and undefeated so late in the season?
Bullitt: “No, I don’t think we do. Our main focus is this week. We are really focused on the Ravens. We are putting everything we’ve done behind us. That’s in the past. It doesn’t matter right now. Now, we have to move forward to this week.”

Q: With so much success is there a concern about the team getting too comfortable?
Bullitt: “No, you don’t want to do that. Definitely, we are still fighting for that No. 1 seed. There are still some teams chasing us, so we definitely need to win these next few games to secure a spot and secure home field.”

Q: Who does Ravens running back Ray Rice remind you of? Is he similar to Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew?
Bullitt: “In some ways, because he can run and catch. He’s a shorter guy, but bottom line we can’t just focus on him. They have some other backs too, we have to take care of him and take care of their other backs as well.

Q: Despite giving up a few points last week, the Colts defense is still giving up the fewest in the league (15.8). Is that a source of pride?Bullitt: “It is huge. We just want to make sure we step up to the plate every time we get a chance and make sure we make plays when an opportunity presents itself. For a defense, it builds confidence for our offense, too.”

Q: You recorded the game-winning tackle against the Patriots last week. What’s the biggest thrill for you as a safety – a big tackle, an interception, a sack?
Bullitt: “Honestly, as long as we win, I’m fine and it doesn’t even matter.”
