Dungy to Write “Legacy Book” to Be Released in February
INDIANAPOLIS – He has written about strength, and written for children.

In February, Colts Head Coach Tony Dungy will release a third book in three years, with this one issuing a challenge to its readers:

Dare to be Uncommon.

Dungy, the New York Times No. 1 best-selling author of Quiet Strength, in February of 2009 is scheduled to release with Tyndale House Publishers a book he considers to be his legacy message: Uncommon: Finding Your Path to Significance.

The book will be co-authored by Nathan Whitaker, who also co-authored Quiet Strength, which was released during the 2007 offseason. In the new book, Dungy will challenge his readers to “Dare to Be Uncommon™”.

Tyndale is supporting the release with a $500,000 marketing campaign.

According to Tyndale, Uncommon reveals lessons on achieving significance that Dungy has learned from his parents, his athletic and coaching careers, his mentors and his journey with God. The book particularly focuses on what it means to be a man of significance in a culture that is offering young men few positive role models.

“Our young men today are falling into a trap,” Dungy said. “Society is telling them material success is what’s important, but if we buy into that idea, we can spend a lifetime chasing that success and never really have the positive impact on people that would make our lives truly significant.”

Dungy’s memoir, Quiet Strength: The Principles, Practices, and Priorities of a Winning Life, held the top spot on the New York Times Best Sellers list in August 2007 and impacted countless lives.

With more than 1,000,000 copies sold, Quiet Strength is one of the best-selling sports-related titles in history.

“We are absolutely delighted to be partnering with Coach Dungy on another important book,” said Janis Long Harris, Associate Publisher at Tyndale. “Uncommon is truly a message from his heart, one that speaks to our deepest longing: a desire for significance.”

The hardcover version of Quiet Strength debuted at No. 2 on the New York Times hardcover nonfiction list on July 29, 2007, and moved to the top spot one week later. It reached the top spot on the list on two different occasions and spent 25 weeks in the top 10, the most weeks in history for a sports-related title.

According to Publishers Weekly, it was the eleventh best-selling hardcover nonfiction book released in 2007.

Dungy this past offseason released You Can Do It! a children’s book that tells the story of a young Dungy, who has a passion for sports, and his two sisters, who are interested in medicine.

You Can Do It! was published by Little Simon Inspirations.
